I like flowers BEST, especially on a vine. It gives a delicate touch to weapon. The oak leaf engraving on the early Scott Premiers is also another of one of my favorites.

I am thinking about having 100% knot engraving like this on my bradshaw rifle. A bit unorthodox, but what do you guys think?

Surprised no one has brought up those awful pornographic guns. Can't imagine why someone would put that on a gun.

LOL is it that bad?!

That does knot make me certain I want it any longer Wink

I am struggelig finding something creative that fits my background.... Maybe I should just og for 100% scroll coverage with "safe" inlaid in gold? The worlds first (as far as I know) falling block double rifle with hand detachable locks is perhaps original enough as it is to begin with...

Robert Strosin is one of the very best today.
Has done 2 Parkers for me.

Geoffroy Gournet is too, was Winchester Parker Reproduction's in-house custom engraver for 16 years.

I love the Celtic ribbon work.
If I were to have a gun engraved, it would be a front runner for me.

Heck I have enough Scotch-Irish in me that I kinda like the Celtic scroll too!

To each his own. Have the engraving done that you like the best and forget about what the unwashed masses think...

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Celtic ribbons with Bulino game scene on floorplate by Geoff Gournet:

My personal favorite style of engraving is Corumbelle, fine scroll overlayed with flowers, ribbons, festoons.

FESTOON-a chain or garland of flowers, leaves, or ribbons, hung in a curve as a decoration.

"The style of engraving is known as "Corumbelle" after Hypolite Corumbelle who first designed that style with ribbons and festoons over English scroll. Corumbelle was a Belgian who started an engraving school in Bologna in the 1950's. He was also the father of Lyson Corumbelle."

Not for me, but my tastes are obviously a bit more subdued. In the end though it really comes down to what type of engraving you like . . . and are confident that your gunsmith/engraver can successfully execute. Bad engraving is worse than no engraving at all in my view. Another thing for me would be if I ever decide to sell the rifle or need to sell the rifle, is the engraving going to enhance its marketability or impair its marketability? I think the more eclectic the style the more limited the market will be at an attractive price. All the foregoing is worth about $0.02.

The Pheasant gun in the gallery on that site is a different concept, That could grow on a person. Fanzoj certainly thinks out of the box. Some I like, some I don't,some is a bit far over the top for me, I appreciate the artsy side of what he does though, seems there isn't much he won't try.

That's good taste at its best. I like the "finesse". One scroll more would have been too much.

Well, I like naked women either in hand or on guns. I think the very finest fantasy's as first done by Torcoli and later equally finely done by Creative Arts are beautiful, but if you don't like naked women on fine guns, suits the hell out of me.

Here's one by Torcoli that probably won't upset the delicate sensibilities in here....

The other side has "gasp" bare breasts on it so I don't want to upset anyone by posting it.

Here's a pic from one on sale on GB as I write. I really like this style and wish I knew who did it. Unfortunately the rest of the gun is not up to the engraving IMO.

I like naked women and I like guns. I generally don't like naked women with guns because ... well we don't need to go into that. And, I'm not a big fan of engraving naked women on guns. Nice work, just not for me.

Some really nice examples of engraving art here. Personally, I prefer colour case receivers, which don't show off engraving well. Although not mutually exclusive, I like rather simple engraving.
