About two years ago, we were approached by the HSC and asked to build their 2013 "President's Rifle" for their annual auction. There wasn't enough time to get it done for 2013, but we have for 2014.

HSC members have seen in the pages of the Hunter's Horn the articles by Ivan Carter chronicling the building of the rifle, but I thought those who were not members might enjoy seeing it as well.

Here is the wood blank selected for the rifle.


The original HSC logo. Hard to tell exactly if this was taken from a photo or a sketch. Either way, it appears to be signed by Jack Carter as a limited edition print. Anyone know the exact story on how that came to be?

This is actually a 470 NE on our large frame.

Here are the wedges on the chamber ends of the barrels being engraved.

Here is the WIP oak & leather case... box, burgundy interior, brass plates, corners, etc... and tan hippo leather.

Very nice but you should cover that case with brown elephant leather.

I would have preferred elephant too, but hippo is all HSC could find to use.

Now I wonder who the original photographer actually was?

I like that elephant for an engraving.
Not like the usual gigantic tusker, but certainly a powerful mature (and pissed) elephant at full steam!

Well, we had a great Houston Show, and the HEYM "President's Rifle" sold for a record-breaking $42,750!

A great rifle with proceeds benefiting a great cause.

Congrats Chris. Having seen the rifle and the case at the show, I honestly do not know which one looked better. That case was a masterpiece in its own right.
