I started off with a Krieghoff .375 and used and still use it for almost all my Africa hunting - inc plains game. I became so accustomed to the .375 (its cocking mechanism, its stock, the rib etc) that it now comes to my shoulder like a friend and like one of my longtime favorite shotguns! A joy. Because one does, I later purchased a .470 double that I was offered. And a chance would have it, she too is a Krieghoff with a close to identical stock, the same cocking system and the same rib and sight. The great thing is that this double comes to my shoulder like a lost friend the same as the .375 with pretty much the same balance (save an ounce or four). Muscle memory is a great thing. The long and short is that the only difference is the cartridge whilst the rest just falls in to place automatically without any need for extra thought whether .375 or .470 is on the shoulder. One less thing to think about in the field! "Up the ladders and down the snakes!"

Great combination, and those with K-gun doubles sure seem to love them.

Your good fortune. I think the cocking mechanism is unique and handy for those accustomed to them. Dutch

Beautiful reading. So did I. Then a Merkel in 470NE came by, too good buy to pass, so I bought it. But the Merkel and I never got along like I did with the Krieghoff 375HH. At the range everything was ok, but when it came to the bush and fast shooting, I shot too low. (muclememory). Finally, I cut loss. Out went the Merkel and in came a Krieghoff 470NE. What a joy. Hi Charlie, It's great to hear of a guy having things come together so well for him! Most assuredly your battery has your rifle hunting needs completely covered. D/R Hunter Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

In the beginning the Krieghoff double rifles were looked upon as a pariah in the double rifle community. The often heard phrase was “ The Krieghoff double rifle is an accident waiting to happen!” I must admit that was my opinion as well when at the Krieghoff booth at the Dallas Safari Club show where they were first introduced to the hunting public. The two guys who were manning the booth, had a script that didn’t say much except that the rifle would sell for under $10K, and that it could be carried fully loaded with safety because it could be de-cocked with the safety button normally called a safety. That little dialog told us very little, and caused most of us to go away thinking this gadget will get some one killed. From their description it was assumed it had to be manually cocked with that button. That and the fact that it came only with extractors turned most serious double rifle people off with no more thought of buying one regardless of price. I was one of them as well. You must remember this was at a time when the new wave of double rifles was just beginning, and most double rifle hunters were still shooting the vintage doubles made mostly in England. This was a radical departure from the vintage double rifle, and the rank and file double rifle user was a little leery of this new contraption. Shortly there after some new doubles came on the market that were more traditional in design, and at about the same price as the K-gun, so it was forgotten for the most part. That was then and this is now, and many have discovered that the worries were unfounded, with the K-gun. After some time several have used them in the field and the Combi-Cocking system is better understood. The Combi-Cocking system on the K-gun is well designed for a double rifle used for dangerous game, and absolutely safe to carry fully loaded. They are well built, strong and well regulated, and if they fit you, they are a very good buy! The only reason I don’t have a couple of them myself is they simply do not fit me well! I’m still considering one in 450-400NE 3 inch! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

I also have two of them, both Grade II's. One in 500/416 and one in.470. In my opinion these are the best DR ever made. I have taken Buffalo and Hippo with both. Both are equipped with Doctor Sights. I suspect my days of hunting DG are behind me and will be selling them in the near future. 500/416 pictured.

Great looking 500 Andreas - a Christmas present ? Although the blue bag looks a bit small for such a big gun ! What have you hunted with it so far ? I am guessing that the silvers pad was a custom order or you put it on ? Charlie "Up the ladders and down the snakes!"

The gun was delivered 2013, 22 November, i ordered it in januar, but i had orginal orded a non-ejector model 3mounths before, but when they announced the new model in januar 2013. I just had to have it, and the dealer in norway buy them straight from the factory in germany so lucky for me it was still possible to change the order. Jepp the red recoil pad, or "old english style" as it says in the order, was put on in the factory. no have not hunted with it yet, still young. I was no moore then 22 when i decied to buy a double, and the year i turned 24. I got my double, my motorbike and a son hehe. And this year my money was put in a 2weeks holyday i majorca in spain.. So hopefuly next year i use it on some plains game. But i can allways hunt some game with it here in norway when the hunting season starts. But my goal is to shoot a buffalo before im 30. My dream is to take it on combo with buffalo and hippo on land Age:27 Safari guns: Ruger No 1 458lott A.W wolf 9.3x74R Røssler 9.3x62 krieghoff 500NE *sold*

Neophyte!!! Don't you know the sound of the "ping" will allow any ele or buff within 3 square miles to zero in on your position and KILL you???!!! I learned that on AR! Peter. It is selectiv, so if you uncock the gun after its fired, its an ekstraktor gun dont need to use the ejector Age:27 Safari guns: Ruger No 1 458lott A.W wolf 9.3x74R Røssler 9.3x62 krieghoff 500NE *sold*
