For you guys who shoot double a lot. How may rounds before you start seeing signs of it becoming off face. I know that with good double shot guns 10's of thousand of rounds by the operate at much lower pressures. | ||

Depends on the maker and design. Lots of variables here...double underlugs, third bite, crossbolt, Jones underlever, side clips, bolstered frame, fit of bites, original tolorances. If it wasn't perfect to begin with, it wears much faster. There are so many different combinations of features designed to keep a gun on face. The nice thing is there are people who can put them back on face, when you wear them out. Some of my guns are over 130 years old and still lock up like a bank vault. With a well made and designed rifle I'd imagine barrel life would be an issue before it went off face. I'm no expert, but that's my guess. Has anyone shot enough "factory" loads through a double rifle to wear it out? The entry level Italian O/U shotguns seem to run about 40K rounds before they go off face. If I shoot a double rifle that much, I would think the cost of replacement barrels would be a non-issue for a field gun.
