It's not my rifle and if I didn't have so many projects going I might be interested. The WR DR is presently listed on Gunbroker starting at 15K

Seems reasonable but it does need to be restocked. If there are any opinions on the gun I would be interested what others think. I didn't post a link, I don't think it's allowed.

Interesting that there are 2 'White Hunters" listed at this time. The other is a 465NE.@10K

It's not a White Hunter model. This is an earlier gun then the White Hunter. It has the Westley Richard's "Model C Dolls Head" that wasn't used on the White Hunter also it's a pre war gun with proof marks from 1904-1925. I don't see the Birmingham Date mark which would mean pre 1921.

That's my attempt on dating by the proof marks, 400 Nitro will come along shortly and give more details and perhaps correct me.

Could be a nice gun if the bores are good but it looks like a candidate for a restocking, definately a new forend.

Factor in $2,500 for a new forend and $4,500 - $5,000 for a proper stock.

I don't think I'd put 15k into it but how many 400s are available today? not many. If the bores are really good I might be tempted.

I looked hard for a good 450/400 two years ago and looked at many dogs before I finally found a nice clean original Jeffery 450/400, snapped that up quickly. Then a Manton 450/400 3" on the Webley PHV1 action dropped into my lap for a very low price, trick was it needed all new wood and a few other items to get right. A year and a half later and almost 10k it has new wood courtesy of Paul Hodgins and its now at JJs for reblacking. It will be a nice gun when finished but the process is long and expensive.

Something to consider when looking at guns that need extensive rework.
