The NRA National Sporting Arms Museum at Bass Pro Shop Flagship Store in Springfield, Missouri is definitely worth a stop if you are anywhere near.

It has approximately 1000 sporting arms including this rather gaudy H and H 700. The card says it is the only one H and H ever built in that caliber.

I especially liked seeing guns owned by Townsend Wheeler, Jessie James, Bad Bob, Annie Oakley, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and other well known hunters.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Well, I think H & H, the NRA, or Bass Pro's Flagship Store in Springfield is not exactly telling the truth because here is ANOTHER 700 H&H they built. I took this picture at the SCI show in Reno last year. Most definitely not the same rifle. This rifle was listed as "prototype". Grenadier here on AR was working the booth and may have additional information.

I wonder if this is the first time a gun dealer strayed from the truth? I know here in Alaska they are as honest as the day is long in the summer.

Most up here would not know what they are looking at!

Double Rifles, This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as bolt rifle. An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

I believe they are deep relief elephants and look quite nice close up!!
I know there are at least three...I saw three on one table at the Beinfeld show years ago...yes, H&H table....two originals for Bill Feldstein, the originator of the 700...because H&H promised no more 600's, and one being completed for Ken Behring, former owner of the Seahawks...and it is said he took it out and killed three elephants with it on the first safari!!
I am sure there are others, and H&H settled up with the owner of the "last 600" and they will still build you one of either these days!!
I recall the engraving on the one being finished on that display was stated at $90,000, completed rifle $270K!!...and that was when shows were still at The Sahara...so maybe late 80's early 90's??
Step Right Up....
Cheers,

Sorry but That is NOT the only one that have been built

I have shot one 4 years ago at my gunsmith's yard and there is another one in the basement museum of burton street

My gunsmith was a holland apprentice since age 16

He has a part in most holland built since the late seventies until recently

The chaps at H&H are indeed happy to build a .700 or .600. But they prefer you to choose a .577 or smaller calibre double rifle.
I'm lucky to be able to visit their London shop easily, and have shot at their lovely shooting grounds on the outskirts of London.

not the first.

I'll go and see what other names are on the cases
- if any !!! (My memory might be playing tricks !)

I have heard a rumor, that every elephant, that has been head shot with a 700 Nitro, NONE of those shots have found the brain.

Which did cause a fair amount of additional Drama...
