What are some of your suggestions on scoping the Valmet 412 in 9.3? How did these set ups work and for what game and circumstances? I have a Euro 30mm Leupy 1.25X4, 2.5XLeup, several Redfield 2.5X and 2.75X with various reticles, and a multireticle panoramic sight. Planning on a Zeiss 3X9X40 later. I like the low powered scopes as they have done all I asked of them in the state of Misery brush hunting I have done. I plan on some Texas pig hunts and dream of African plains game and Cape Buffalo on a future hunt. In between I may have to see my Thai brother and hunt some northern Gaur if possible. Thanks in advance. Packrattusnongratus - NRA, Life NAHC, Life NMLRA, future DRSS.

Depends in large part on your choice of scope mount. I have a QD on mine, with Burris 1.5-4 x I believe. There is no objective bell on the scope. Looks like a pistol scope. Works very well however (out to 100 yards where I have tested it).

I passed up a $70 El Paso Weaver 4X with Post and Crosshairs. It was quite clear and I now have "non buyer's remorse". It would go on this 412 or my Savage99 .358 equally well. Packy

No other ideas eh? I'm wondering if a Zeiss 3X9-40 would be a good idea in an extra mount. The multireticle panoramic sight doesn't look workable at this point. I see no way to use a 7/8" Weaver dovetailed style mount. Now how about an aperture? Any 412/512/Finnlight owners out there? TIA Packy

I just bought a Kahles 1.1X4X24 Illuminated C-dot scope for my Chapuis. I saw on at the Housto Safari Club Show and found one online like new. Man, what a nice scope!

The only problem with the Euro Leupold is the 30mm rings. Russ just didn't have them in stock at the time of purchase. I think I will use the Kahles for now as I figured out a way to use the 1" rings with this 26mm Kahles. Thanks. Packy

Well, I have a compact Burris 4x on my 9,3x74r #1 and a Leupold 1.5-5 on my 9,3 Chapuis. Both look great (IMHO) and function very well.

I see the 9,3x74r as being a 250-yard max elk/kudu/zebra kind of thing, and scoped accordingly for the somewhat petite rifles.

I bought it used some time ago and I got hosed. But it was $450. and I have used it for about two years on a Savage99 in 358 Winchester. It is a DRT rifle for sure. This 9.3 is going to be the big brother. I don't know which one will come out of the vault at next big game season. Packy

It was too cold Saturday but I went to the range anyway. Only two other gun crazies showed up while I was there. The 412S 9.4 barrels shot well at 20 yards with open sights. Then I put the Kahles on. The Kahles is a 26 MM scope tube not 1". So as I tried to mount it I saw that it has a bushing inside the rings. It still worked but the Kahles was shooting too high at 20 yards and I got too cold to spend any more time there. I still had to try out the shotties. i drove over to the pattern boards and shot about ten rounds at cardboard. Good pattern and about 25 degrees more wind chill with no trees protecting the pattern board. I became less gun crazy after that and left. Any ideas on the scope? packy
