"If" components were equally available for both, (i guess all that's lacking at this time is "flanged" brass) what one would YOU choose for your new DR, and why? DM

"IF" is a major stumbling block here, the 9,3x74R is sooooo plentiful. That said, I'd take the 375FL. Rich Buff Killer

I have to disagree with Rich here. I would take the 9.3X74R in a heartbeat. It makes up into a rifle about two pounds lighter and much easier to carry and, at the ranges where dangerous game is usually taken, it will do everything the flanged .375 will do. The .366 is just an extraordinary caliber that give performance way beyond the paper ballistics, especially with todays premium bullets. The Europeans are really on to something here. Given the same price of rifles, I would go with the 375. It will bring more when you sell it.

id take the 375 Fl Magnum but that's only because I'm an Angliophile !!! and I just like the calibre. I have a couple of DR's in both calibres and would choose either for hunting. The point about the 9.3x74R being able to be made lighter is a good one.

Were I after buffalo I would choose the 375. Were I in the Sologne chasing Sanglier, I'd use the 9.3. Nothing wrong with either. The 375 has an edge in power which is significant for using it on DG. In the U.S. there is a larger choice of bullets for the 375 as well. I don't have either, but recently won an auction for an older 375 Francotte. Obviously, I think the round has something to recommend it!

I agree with Dave here. After using my 9,3x74R double rifle for several years in Texas Montana, Idaho, Canada, and 3 trips to ZIM, I find it the equal to the 375 [H&H or Flanged], in every way. My 9,3 weighs 7 1/4 lbs un scoped, and is a delight to carry. A 9,3 double is usually quite a bit cheaper, and lighter than a 375 Flanged Double. Knowing what I know now, even if the doubles were the same price, the size of the 9,3 would make it my pick. As a plus, now that Hornady is making loaded ammo it is a lot easier to find. And that will always be the case (375 Fl being higher than a 9.3). It's a case of buy one if you want one, prices on 375 Fl always seem to go up.

375 Fl It's " legal" in more countries and it does resale better. That said : I have no doubt in my 9.3 x 74R 's ability. DuggaBoye-O NRA-Life Whittington-Life TSRA-Life DRSS DSC HSC SCI

There is really no need, other than by tradition, for a 375 Fl. to be but a few ounces more than a 9.3x74R. But it is stuck in tradition and the peewee 9.3 double is fun to shoot. So it's an easy pick as the muzzle energies are pretty much identical. ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. hey! If I get my pick, they will weigh the same, and I get 1000 rounds of factory ammunition free in the deal!! After all, this is my fantasy, right? Rich Buff Killer

Provided .375 flanged ammo and cases were as plentyful as dito for the 9,3x74R, the chambering would'nt matter as both calibers as virtually equal. I would buy the rifle I prefer. Things being, I'd go for the 9,3, no doubt . André DRSS --------- 3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact. 5 shots are a group.

I absolutely love both rounds, and would love having one of each! I have two 9.3X74R doubles, but if the availability of ammo, and componants were the same for both, and I could have only one, then the 375 Fl would get my vote. The only reason is the 375 Flanged is legal for all dangerous game anywhere, and the 9.3X74R is not in many places. The resale is higher for the 375 fl double, but so is the price you have to pay to get one. I see absolutely no difference that would be detectable to a buffalo between the two rounds with like bullet placement, and bullet quality. ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith
