Replacing Rear Sight on Krieghoff

I picked up a Kriegoff in .500 Nitro a couple weeks back, and it came with one fixed rear sight. I really am a fan of a folding leaf or two for rear sights plus I like the look much better also.

Does anyone have any recomendations for a gunsmith to replace the rear sight with a fixed and folding leaf on a Kriegoff?

Thanks.

Just how far do you need to shoot that 500?

Aesthetics, I can accept. For functionality of the 200 yard leaf on a .500 NE, might try the sighting system on a 60mm mortar.

On a .500 NE, there are more bad things that can happen by having a leaf than not. I would not want to run the risk of the leaf being flipped up for 200 yards when I was 20 yards from an elephant.

Sierra,

Krieghoff International in PA is the authorized service center.
They can do it. I have had somework done them, though nothing major.
Mike at Alamo Sporting goods out west (AZ or TX) I think.
Will also have some recommendations I am sure.
Sorry I am on the road so I cannot post phone numbers.

It is simple, if the bases interchange, and easily done yourself. Find out if they interchange by looking at the New England Custom Gun site. Or call and ask them.

You ought to consider the skeletonized rear standing blade while your playing around with the rear shight.

The folding Kriegs site will need to cut the rib. Provided you use the "factory sites" i forget the actual makers name that 90 % of european makers use. But New England and Euroguns use there products as I saw a big catalog that even had Mauser actions listed. My 500 has the 3 leaf sights with the moon front sight. This was done for resale in the future only and what I felt was a more classic look.
Be aware that out of Heym Kriegs and Merkel the folded leaf are rarely shot to the rifle and only the primary site have been regulated when the rifle arrives. BWDIK FWIW IMHO

Recknegel is the sight maker you are thinking of.

They will send you a catalogue upon request. I would look at the catalog to see if a multi folding leaf sight will fit the current slot in the rib. Recknegel makes Kreighoff sights for Kreighoff, as I recall. Chances are good that there is at least one multi blade option that will fit without additional work.

What MJ said. If you like the looks, fine, but glue the leafs down.

Most definately get the skeletonized rear sight for your K-gun.

Price list I saw had it as a $475 option from Alamo Sporting Arms. Very capable gunsmiths there.
