500 Grains, et al,

Anybody have experience with Johan Fanzoj DRs?

Look to be excellent rifles. A bit Germanic, but tastefully so.

One for sale on Safari Outfitter's site. www.safarioutfitterltd.com

Curious,

JW

THe Fanzoj rifles I have handled had excellent workmanship, but I have never fired one. I suspect that $42K is much lower than a new one could be made.

Yeah 500, they're hovering around 80-90K for this grade gun and of course a bunch more with better scratching and lumber.

Thanks for the response,

JW

I handled George Hoffaman's gun a couple years ago it was a 470 boxkock by Fanzoj. Nice gun just way too short for me. It sold for 15,000, IMO it was a heck of a deal. Great workmanship!!

You might want to ask the serial no of that rifle. If it is based on a shotgun action that Fanzoj buys elsewhere, the serial no. will likely be a high one (20,000 or more). If Fanzoj made the action from scratch, the serial no. will probably be well under 1000.

JW,

I am not saying that he buys any shotgun actions - I don't know one way or the other. But if he buys actions made by another, such as Italian shotgun actions, then they would already be serial numbered and they are likely (but not definitely) produced in volume. But if makes the actions himself, or if he buys forgings and then makes the action, then he would serial number them himself and as he could not do that many then the serial number would be fairly low.

Again, just to be clear, I do not know where he gets his actions. Just trying to reason it through.

Jeff Wemmer,

Hannes Fanzoj who is the manager at Johann Fanzoj is a very nice person to talk to. Just call him with whatever doubts you may have. Fanzoj can make rifles on virtually any kind of action you want - boxlock, droplock, sidelock, trigger plate etc.

If you do talk to Hannes, please tell him Hi from me. They are among the nicest people in the business you could talk to.

Good hunting!

Thanks Mehul,

I have not spoken with Hannes, but have had several visits with Danielle...We're working on a "Tri-Bore" shotgun project.

They are very nice and sincere people.

Yes,

I have made an offer and am waiting for response....Julia's and now the upcoming Holt's are keeping me way "tasked" on the DR scene.

Drop me a PM sometime,

JW
