Hard to think that after all these years of wanting a double rifle, I will have two within a week. The Kodiak 45-70 arrived yesterday evening and next weekend I am going to go pick up a Merkel 140-1.1 in a 308. I hope that starts a trend for me. I run a big deer lease northeast of Houston that has plenty of hogs and I can't wait to make a run out there and introduce them to my new doubles.

I have been reading a lot of your older posts and have already gained a lot of good information that I will not have to learn the hard way. I know I will come to y'all with both problems and successes. Right now, there is nothing but success. Looking forward to the day that I "have" to order something from Kebco.

For the last 3 years, we have had a group of law enforcement guys that have come out for our annual "NA226 Hog Slayer Society" meeting at the lease and next March, the guys are going to get to see what a real hog gun looks like. Still selling off some guns to pay for this new infection.

Duke, Great! You're about to re-discover the love of hunting. A double rifle adds a new element to the game, and increases the joy of the hunt immeasurably. Like starting all over, but with a better appreciation of the hunt.

Welcome aboard. If you want to add a couple of inexpensive doubles to the collection consider the Remington Baikals in 30-06 and 45-70. Light, cheap to purchase, fast handling, and super accurate. Just get a trigger job and have them hogs line upSmiler

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Doubles are like crack cocaine. Very very addictive. I bought one, a few months later I bought a second and 2 months later I al getting ready to buy a Sabatti in 9.3x74R. Seek addiction counseling IMMEDIATLY!!

As for yoru TX hogs I cam down with a buddy last year to hun SE of Dallas. Had a blast. Lets just say cans, night vision, and full auto makes it a whole lot more fun. Big Grin

Hasher, I think right now I am going to try to just take treatments of an additional double from time to time and see if I can manage my problem. If it works out that I am unable to control this addiction then I may come back for a recommendation on a good gun-owning-hunting counselor for consultation. If doubles are anything like crack, I'm done for having watched crack take over communities for my last 26 years of law enforcement, it is a true plague. Very unlike doubles. I have joked for the last 33 years that when my wife first laid eyes on me and wanted that extra edge to attract me, she started putting a little Hoppes #9 behind each ear instead of Channel #5 and after the first whiff, I was hooked.

You are going to love that Kodiak. I have one in 45-70 and andother in 8 x 57JRS. Just need the 9.3 x 74 to complete the triplet! I took the the 45-70 out for hogs last year and never fired it prior to going. Two shots at a beer can at hog range (25 yards) and I shot my first hog at 125 yards with the 3rd shot. It shoots well with factory 300 gr bullets.

I couldn't stand it any longer and shot it from kneeling at 25 yards this afternoon to see if it looked like it "wanted" to shoot. I think it does. I have grand hopes now for thumping hogs at the lease.
