There is a 'sticky' thread about this at NitroExpress in the doubles area with most of the names you want. NRA Life ASSRA Life DRSS Today's Quote: Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Most of the Major names in the British Gun Trades were just store front operations. Most the completed double rifles were bought from Trade Makers in Birmingham, such a Leonard. Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. Do not be uneasy about me, for I am with my friends." ----- David Crockett in his last letter (to his children), January 9th, 1836 "I will never forsake Texas and her cause. I am her son." ----- Jose Antonio Navarro, from Mexican Prison in 1841 "for I have sworn upon the altar of god eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." Thomas Jefferson Declaration of Arbroath April 6, 1320-“. . .It is not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.”

And John Saunders. And as far as any distinction goes, many of the unsung referred to themselves, and their business as Gunsmith, with or without Gunmaker. All very confusing.

Agreed, hence my question above. I've already put it but of course Webley & Scott (and the various incarnation of those two names over the years.) were the other great providers to the trade and of course maker of Holland & Holland guns before H&H took over making guns themselves. .

This list must include J&W Tolley, makers of the big stomper bore-rifles, Ubique Ball&Shot guns, and big-charge express rifles. They held many patents and produced work to a very high standard. Cheers Tinker _________________________________ Self appointed Colonel, DRSS

Although this thread is titled "British Gun Makers", this is the DR forum. I like to see that Showbart listed Boss. Many people don't know that they did build a few double rifles. According to the Boss rep at DSC, they only built around 70 total. My friend has a 1878 Boss in .577 Snyder. It is simply beautiful and was built for a British Military Officer... Don't remember the rank. I would bet it is the only Boss ever chambered in this round. It is a blast to shoot! Very mild recoil. It's also nice to see the Edinburgh builders included. I would rate the workmanship, fit, finish, of the Scottish builders, as good as any...and better than most. ND Stephen Grant 500BPE Joseph Harkom 450BPE
