BiebsPaul, that other picture of the engraved Elephant is much better than Ken's phone shot....it is VERY well done. Nice regulation target! What's the ETA at Griffin & Howe?
07 April 2011, 02:12
CCMDocThanks Jon,
No idea on ETA - have the tracking number but that isn't even logged into their system yet.
I'm hoping Monday or Tuesday ...

michael458Doc!

I knew this thing was going to be dandy---But did not expect that! WOW--it's incredible! A very fine piece of work! As you know Sam has several VCs. While I don't know crap about them, they are mighty fine. I am not a double chap--but if there was ever two doubles that I covet it's Sam's two VCs that I have played with, 500 Nitro and his 577 Nitro! Extreme Excellence! This one of yours is looking mighty fine as well!
Can't wait to see how it handles the #13s!

CCMDocThanks Gentlemen

I've suggested to Ken that he have a page on his website that shows some of the "special" guns he has had built for customers.
DoubleDon has a couple of real beautiful Verney-Carron doubles - a 500 and a 577.
I know of one other being built for another AR member in 500NE and of course our own Jorge is in the queue as well.
Thanks again for the kind words and I hope I can duplicate that target with CEBs though I have a lot of work to do to hone my DR skills.

I think this rifle proves you cannot.

I'm glad your waiting is over. Again, congrats!

CCMDocWell, again many thanks for the kind words.
I don't know what magic Biebs worked with the guys in the brown shorts but he tells me UPS will deliver to Griffin & Howe tomorrow by end of business day and I'll take him at his word. It was he after all that put me on to Ken Buch to begin with and with Karl Stumpfe for our next safari.
And speaking of Ken Buch - I have to say again what a pleasure it has been to speak and work with him. A gentleman and great all around guy.
If Biebs and I can actually pick it up tomorrow, I will do my best to take some additional photos and post a few more if there is interest. Ken's photos seem to have captured all of the salient points.

CCMDocJust got back from picking it up at Griffin & Howe.

I'll let Biebs weigh in on how it looks and handles but to my eyes, hands and shoulder - everything I had hoped it would be and fits me like a fine shotgun.

The Verney-Carron family have given me all that I asked for and then some.

Ken Buch was always a pleasure and a gentleman.
I can't wait to get to the range and try to create groups at 25 yards that come close to that test target at 50 metres.

Thanks again folk though is it, in fact, "Bespoke"?

Now I have to get back to work ...

BiebsDr Paul has been admitted to surgery this afternoon. It seems the grin he had on his face was so wide it dislocated the top of his head! The rifle is gorgeous...makes DoubleDon's look like a Mossberg!!!
(Just kidding DD!!!!!)
08 April 2011, 00:23
CCMDocActually I mentioned to Ken that he should have a page on his website for some of these - to show folk what alternatives to standard fare they have.
Ken didn't mention to whom it was going or what caliber but he is shipping another "Custom" V-C double out today. He says it is "as nice as" mine.
After getting back to the office and fondling it for while as well as taking a few pictures, I looked at the regulation target again.
Impressive.
I was pleased to see that my 600NE is regulated with Westley Richards 900grain ammo. According to the WR website, this throws a 900 grain pill at 1950fps from a 24" barrel (vs. Kynoch which is 900grains at 1950fps from a 28" barrel).

Beautiful gun Doc!! I believe the ammo is Wolfgang Romey. Also marketed by Westley Richards. BTW, I would take any manufacturer's "stated" velocity with a grain of salt.
