I see that Jamison is now making brass for the .500/.416 and I would like to know more about this cartridge. Anyone have one or shot one? Is/was it a Kreighoff or a Blaser? How do you like it? I can't seem to find any load data for it. Could you PM me with your load data? Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

Dave I own a Kreighoff double in 500/416. I have never hunted with it. I really like the rifle and cartridge. The recoil is very manageable, and the rifle is a joy to shoot. Here are the loads that regulate best in my K gun. BTW I have used it both with open sights and with a scope (I have scope mounts for it). Be aware that normal reloading practices should be followed ie. work up to these loads.
Hornady 400 SP 95 grs. IMR 4350
Woodleigh 410 SP 109.5 grs, H 1000 (2340 fps)
Woodleigh 410 solid 95 grs. IMR 4350 (2420 fps)
GS Custom 380 gr. FN 112 grs. H1000

I've hunted with a borrowed double and have a single shot built for it.

The most common complaint I hear is that it recoils as much as a 470, so why not go bigger and get the full stopping power of the 470?

The answer for me is that at 2400 fps plus, it is more than a stopper. It is a long range big bore every bit as versatile as the 416 Rigby. With a scope, it is a true 300 yd hunting rifle for all situations. 300 yds with a 470 is a bit more difficult to me.

That's my story and I'm stickn' to it.

Have a Krieghoff in this cal.

Yes, it's recoil is similar to a .470. but...

It is a better choice for ele for a PH. The .470's penetration is marginal at odd angles and the .416's is superb!

It is a much better cartridge for Lion. Impact velocity is high enough to cause Hydrostatic shock and that makes a big difference on lion.

Would probably rate the .470 as marginally better on buffalo - but Personally I like a 9,3 for buff!

9,3 over 500/416 for buff? How comes that? (Not for stealing the string, I own a Krieghoff 9,3 but wish it was a 500/416...)
