I'm sure you guys have been there and done that, but I'm looking for something besides a straight up leather rig. I like my Murray Custom slings, but I'd like to see what some of you use. Thanks!

I don't like a sling on a double but if you have to use one use the lightest nylon one you can find.

I like the canvas /leather ones that I used to get from Cabelas and Cape Outfitters. I think Westley Richards sell some similar ones. I prefer the ones with the brass studs rather than the Leather covered buckle. They look like the English ones from the turn of the century. 19th to 20th century that is.

I have one with the leather covered buckles. Buddy of mine gave it to me a few years back and I didn't have a use for it until I purchased the double. It works great for this gun and allows me to take it off and wear it around my waist like a belt when I go into the thick stuff.

Agree with above - I own a DR or 2 and like the classic looks of a fine canvas and leather / all leather sling as much as the next guy...BUT, when it comes to prolonged efforts in the bush, it's time for some serious durability and comfort.

Thus, I invented this...

http://www.texashuntco.com/Pro...ils.asp?ProductID=44

Not the "classic" look some may want, but the ideal rig for prolonged use and performance..(save those classy leather set-ups for the photo ops).

Jeff,
That sling looks interesting.

Will you have any at Dallas Safari Club convention?

I don't like to use a sling much and especially on a double rifle. But I do always have a trader keiths rolled up in my pocket just in case I want it. I like it because it is so compact and resonably confortable. If you use a sling all the time then I would get Jeffs sling.

Just two thoughts on slings for double rifles:

-- must be hand detachable so when the bush gets thick you can take it off so it doesn't get hung up;

-- the front eye is on the barrels, NOT, as in the illustration in Jeff's post, on the stock. That's for two reasons of which the first is that it's easier to carry with a longer reach out to the barrels; the more important second reason is that a big bore with a sling eye on the forend risks to rip up your hand.

Regards, Tim

This is absolutely true! The sling on a double rifle is only there for one purpose, to carry the rifle on long treks! The sling has the be easy to remove in a split second and put out of the way for the final stalk on game! Most Quick-detach sling swivels will not fit the sling eyes on most double rifles, unless the sling eye is bored out with a larger hole.

There is one more reason the sling eye shouldn’t be on the forearm of a double rifle, and that is because it is hard on the fore-end attachments, and wood, and held properly the sling eye would be in the palm of the fore-hand. The image below is not to be used with a double rifle! Wrapping up in a sling on a double rifle retards the muzzle flip, and will adversely effect regulation!

Their belt systems are second to none, but that sling is not well suited to double rifle use! A simple canvas wide strap, with quick-detach hooks or loops is perfect! This is one place that needs no improving!

Below ids the Traider Keiths canvas sling! A very simple canvas sling that will roll up and go easily in your day pack, or cargo pant pocket!

A number of companies sell slings, usually for sxs shotguns that have no need of swivels. Suggest you google and check them out.

I stock the traditional safari style canvas / leather slings similar to Trader Keith's, but lighter in weight and very elegant. They are not really quick detach. I have them in both brown or olive canvas and in either black or tan leather. They'r $20 plus shipping and are made by Levys of Canada. Great stuff. Levys also makes all my cartridge carriers, all leather slings, and shell belts.

The "TITAN" QD swivels by "outdoor connection" offer 1& 1 quarter and are great. They should fit the Kreighoff .

I use combination leather and webbing. It sure is nice have if you are tracking for hours and then when you head into the thick stuff for a shot(you hope)I undo the quick disconnect swivels and put the sling around my waist and lock the swivels together.Works great in both situations.
