I checked out a Merkel 20 gauge shotgun and was very dissapointed in the checkering. It was worse than bad. I don't know what "grade" it was but the tag said $3999. How is the work on their double rifles? Jim "Bwana Umfundi" NRA | ||

I have a 12G merkel side by side and the checkering is fine. The engraving on the other hand looks like something my 3 year old daughter could duplicate. This is there bottom of the line double. I would rather have no engraving at all then have this crap. I still like how the gun shoots and plan on keeping it for a while. ****************************************************************** R. I agree with Roscoe, I have a couple of Merkel Double Rifles, and the wood, and checkering is top notch, but like Roscoe, I don't find the engraveing to be something to be proud of! The fit and finish in general is great, and the handleing, and accuracy is great. I agree Jim, most of thier checkering (except on the highest grades) seems to be pretty poor. The good news is that it's a relatively inexpensive problem to solve by having the checkering re-cut... assuming you work that into the cost of the gun of course. | |||
