I checked out a Merkel 20 gauge shotgun and was very dissapointed in the checkering. It was worse than bad. I don't know what "grade" it was but the tag said $3999.

How is the work on their double rifles?

The checkering on my Merkel .500 NE looks great to me.

I have a 12G merkel side by side and the checkering is fine. The engraving on the other hand looks like something my 3 year old daughter could duplicate. This is there bottom of the line double. I would rather have no engraving at all then have this crap. I still like how the gun shoots and plan on keeping it for a while.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! I agree with Roscoe, I have a couple of Merkel Double Rifles, and the wood, and checkering is top notch, but like Roscoe, I don't find the engraveing to be something to be proud of! The fit and finish in general is great, and the handleing, and accuracy is great. These are working rifles, and well worth the cost! beer

I agree Jim, most of thier checkering (except on the highest grades) seems to be pretty poor.

The good news is that it's a relatively inexpensive problem to solve by having the checkering re-cut... assuming you work that into the cost of the gun of course.
