I recently bought a Chapuis UGEX in 9.3x74R from Kebco. I'm really happy with it; hard to believe they put such gorgeous wood on entry level rifles! Based on earlier recommendations, I've decided to use Recknagel QD bases and rings. I have a Leupold Vari x 111 1.5x5 w/20mm objective that I intend to try first. I also have an old Redfield 2x7 w/33mm objective that I may also try. Both are 1" tubes. Question is? What ring height should I get that will: 1) keep the scopes as low as possible yet still leave me enough thumb room to comfortably operate the rifle opening lever? 2) Have enough clearance for the 33mm objective lense on the Redfield to clear the rear sight? I'm not sure this will even be an issue because I don't know how far foreward the scope will have to be mounted. OR? Should I just stick with the smaller Leupold scope and forget about trying the Redfield? If I do that, what ring height will I need for the Leupold? Hopefully, someone out there has played around with a similar issue and can keep me from re-inventing the wheel. Thanks. | ||
