I think it is time to take a poll as to what folks want from the AR forums for African big five hunting, big bore bolt rifles and double rifles. I ask this to find how posters can better serve those who have questions on any of these subjects. Though most old timers here are well aware of the answers to most often asked questions and simply pass on posts on those subjects for the most part. My main question is, do the new comers find any value in the posts explaining some of the complexities involving any of these three forums involving firearms used for dangerous game?

I think we should refrain from naming posters and it might be a good idea to simply select the numbers in each category that you have gotten the best explanation to your questions, without comment to avoid any bruised egos. Of course if you feel a need to make comments I would ask that no names be used other than you own!

The reason for this poll is many of the old timers have explained many of these subjects time, and time again, and to some the repetition of these answers is simply “We’ve heard
it before!” But to the new comers it may shed light on the subject. To those who do not know the answers it may be golden!

Dear MacD37:

It works for me, in conjunction with actually going out and looking at the rifles, too.

Sincerely,

Mac, I've enjoyed all of it, even the inside jokes that some of the guys that know each other pass around. It is neat to be an eavsdropper on conversations between a group that has long association with each other. My gang has been hunting together for 40 years and some of the banter on AR reminds me of us. It can be a pain to re-post the same info. over and over but it is invaluable to new readers. I'm new to DR's but on other forums dealing with subjects I have lots of experience with I always try to answer a question rather than just refer to old posts or tell them to run a search. Thanks for your constant input.

Thanks Mac, I have learned a tremendous amount about various rifles and calibers. It is very easy to study the different aspects of our sort each day with so many different posts available.

Gentlemen of the Accurate Reloading forums, I think you all know that AR is one of about only three websites with a combined experience of a couple of hundred years worth of hunting and firearms knowledge on the internet. One is never too old to learn something new, about something that is as old as hunting, and firearms of all kinds.

With that thought in mind, it has always been my belief that all hunters and shooters have a responsibility to pass along what he knows to the next generation. This poll has made it clear that we have learned quite a lot from this website.

Thanks to Saeed’s very generous supplying of this website for us, and because of his very liberal allowance of free speech so that whether some disagree with certain posts, they are not restricted from speaking their mind so disagreements can be sorted out. In all the years I’ve been a member here I’ve never seen one person banned without first ignoring several warnings to cease and desist.
The above is the main reason this place works for us all to learn from this vast volume of stored knowledge!

To those who bothered to vote in this poll, I thank you!

I learned Michael & Sam are perhaps the two most knowledgable ammo/load/bullet guys I have ever met! Thanks to them both, I learned what a fabulous bullet the CEB's are, and alot about there use in a double rifle too.

The good folks here saved me from buying a Sabatti with ground muzzles. Was going to buy one in 470 but decided to google them and found AR.
It has been a real education. Entering the shallow end of the pool with my Baikal 45-70 and following the discussions here. Thanks
