I have been reading all of your discussions over the past few weeks and now I have a question for you. From what I have read, the Pedersoli Kodiak is a well made rifle. I was wondering if any of you know about the one that was on Cabela's in Idaho this morning. It was described to me as having 3 rear leaf sights marked for 100, 200, and 300. Looks to be clean but looks like it has been blooded at some time in its past. It should arrive here in a week or so. My first and only double, 40+ years late. Thanks for any information. I know I will be back for loads. I have been loading for 45-70 for years so it will not be new for me.

Welcome to the site Duke!

Shoot the hell out of that rifle when you get it.
I've heard of many guys getting very good regulation with factory ammunition.
Use the search feature here, put Kodiak 45-70 in the box and see what comes up for you.

I haven't owned one of these, so I can't comment from personal experience with this particular rifle.

Looking forward to seeing how you do with it!!

Cheers
Tinker

My brother had one of the Kodiak's. His was the older model with the brown barrels...

He also contacted Pederosoli, and they told him any load save in the New Marlin 45/70 was safe in the Kodiak.

Hos rifle was very accurate and shot most all factory and our reloads to the same point of aim at 50 yards.

One of the factory 300gr loads and the 405 Remimgton loads shot a few inches higher or lower, I cannot remember.

Hope that helps.

I had one for about a month and got talked out of it. Roll Eyes It was a nice rifle. However for the same $$ I would have to look close at the Sabatti

As usual just my $.02

I had one. It was very accurate with almost everything I put through it. It'd been regulated with 300gr Winchester factory loads (per Pedersoli), but I think it liked the factory Remington and reloaded 405 grain loads even better. It was also beautiful.

I traded it at Cabelas (along with maybe 7 other guns and cash) for my Merkel 470NE. I really like the Merkel, but I sometimes miss the Kodiak. Sure was easier on the shoulder.

skl1, I know what you mean. I am trying to sell several guns right now to raise the money for a pair of Sabatti 45-70's that I have on order for a friend of mine and myself when I found this hammer gun. Too much cowboy shooting, like hammer guns. Have squirreled away enough money over the years that I am going to also pick up a Merkel sub-caliber double 140-1.1, if I have read correctly on here, I think all sub-calibers are 22 Hornets even if they are 30 caliber.

Knowing how supportive you guys are, to share the joy that most of you have already known, the Kodiak is on the truck and will be here Thursday. Been trying for years to figured out how to get a double rifle and now I have one on the truck, a Sabatti 45-70 on order (probably 12 months min on delivery), and picking up the 30 cal Merkel 140-1.1 in 2 weeks. When it rains, it pours.

Have 11 weeks left on completing my Master's degree on-line which is sucking the life out of me but once that is over, it will definitely be "double time"!!! Be finished with school mid-October, have plenty of time built up at work, and our deer season starts the first of October and runs through end of February so I'll be set between the deer and hogs.

Wife is already telling folks that I will "probably" be spending a lot of time in the woods this year. Will hit 34 years together on 9/11 (our 25th anniversary sucked big time) so she already knows what is coming this hunting season. Smiler

One issue with the Pedersoli Kodiak is that the barrels are brazed and not soft soldered, the barrels can not be re-regulated.

Kebco thanks for the information. It will either shoot or go away but I have big hopes for it's performance after the luck a lot of guys here seem to have had with this model. Pigs are waiting. You can probably sit back and wait in the wings because my lustful eyes have wandered over to your company and those Chapius sure look nice. If the hook goes in past the barb on my double rifle experience, I see a lot more of my stuff going away to make both money and room for another double.
