Does anyone have any experience with this bullet. I used it in my Chapuis to kill this black bear the other day.. http://share.shutterfly.com/sh...&sid=8AZNXDhq3atFGlU The bear was 150 lbs and was shot at about 20 yards. I loaded the bullet to the same fps as the Hornady factory ammo, which uses the same bullet. The speed is 2350 fps. I shot him through the shoulder and the bullet exited the other side behind the other shoulder leaving a hole the size of a tennis ball in the bears armpit!! The bear dropped down and started thrashing so I gave him the other barrel, this shot hit the hind quarters and exited the stomach leaving the guts hanging out! Unfortunately did not recover either bullet. Has anyone here got any experience with these bullets? I cut one in half to see what it was made like. See the pictures, the jacket is quite hard and is about .08 inches thick. What I am worried about is that this bullet will be to explosive for tough stuff like African game and Moose. Any experience with this bullet is apreciated. NRA Life DRSS Searcy 470 NE The poster formerly known as Uglystick

Dandy black bear ... Congratulations! I don't think you have to worry about the Moose with that load. I think I'd stick with the likes of Woodleighs for Africa though. The jaacket looks pretty thick. I shot one pig with the Hornady factory load in my 9,3 Chapuis. I got complete penetration, examining the wound, expansion looked good but not too "soft". However, for Africa I can state that the 286 Nosler Partition and the 286 Woodleigh RN Soft work perfectly. I used the Woodleigh Soft on a very large bodied, horns too, buff in the SAVE. Only one shot was required. On smaller game, Giraffe, and elephant the 286 Woodleigh Solids work great. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Thanks guys... I guess it is going to be Hornady for North America and Nosler Partitions and Woodleigh Soilds in Africa. NRA Life DRSS Searcy 470 NE The poster formerly known as Uglystick

Honkey, I've shot a lot of 9,3x62 loaded with Nosler Partitions in Africa. They open up pretty fast. Haven't recovered any but have only been shooting plains game. For more dangerous game except Lion, I think I'd go to the 286 Woodleigh PP SP and Solid rather than the Partition. The Partitions shoot pretty well in my Chapuis, but the Woodleighs shoot better anyway. Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... Thanks again, I am going to try and continue the experiment by shooting a whitetail up here in Maine this fall with the Chapuis. I will probably load it with the Hornadys. NRA Life DRSS Searcy 470 NE The poster formerly known as Uglystick

Hornady's will work fine on white tail. The only bullet I've found that I just don't like in the 9,3x74R is the 270 gr Speer. My experience (and others do differ with it) is that the Speer is too soft. Leaves chunks of lead in a curved wound canal on piggies and white tail. Shame because they're cheap and accurate. Hornady's shot well for me, but my rifle's favorite is the Swift. http://www.swiftbullets.com/st...liber-300-grain.html DuggaBoye-O NRA-Life Whittington-Life TSRA-Life DRSS DSC HSC SCI
