Hello I have been looking for some good ammo boxes for the 470 Nitro. I have bought several and none seam to be large enough. I have tried the 22 round MTM, they were just a tad too long. Abouth the only thing that I have found that will work is the MTM brown 10 round ammo wallets and I am not to sure if they will be good enough for travel when I go to Africa this August. What is everyone else using?
Thanks

Mac

I used the 10 round MTM ammo boxes for my 450/400 in my last trip to Zim.

I would use them for my 450 No2 and my 9,3 as well, but those cartridges are too long.

I also use them with my 300 and my 375.
I like the MTM boxes.

No problem with airport security.
I always put my ammo in either a Pelican box or a waterproof roll down bag.

I also use the brown MTM 10 round wallet and find them perfect.

I used the XL-50 case from MTM. I cut out the "X"s in the bottom of the tray and put a thin sheet of foam in the bottom of the case to cushion the bullet tips.

I have a bunch of plastic 20 round boxes that I bought years ago that are marked:

J&J

45-70 to 600 N.E.

If they still are made, you might find the "J&J" brand by doing a search.

Use the "slip top" type boxes rather than the hinged lid ones. I have some blue and brown ones that are presumably MTM that work just fine for my 9.3x74R and 450 NE.

I also use the 20 round J&J for 500NE and 458 Lott.

Work okey but sometimes will break of dropped when fully loaded with big stuff. Covering the bottem and cover edges with Duct tape seems to solve the breakage issue for me.

I think the best approach is to put the rounds down into the slots head first, so that the bullets are again the slip case lid. Less tendency to bust out the bottom of the slots.

The boxes also make good loading trays, as trays are hard to come by in the big cartridge case sizes. Smiler

The larger round (500NE) will only fit "bullets down". But the things will still break if dropped on sa hard surface Frowner The Midway loading trays work fine for the big stuff, just not for 50BMG.
