'Ghost Ring' by proper definition is large [3/16" - 1/4" ID] with a thin ring. The eye automatically centers on that ring ,hardly noticing that it's there. A square 1/8" front sight [with white center line if desired] works well. In my experience it's fast and accurate .I haven't used it on a double but have on bolt guns anywhere from 270W to 375 H&H.

IIRC Finn Aagaard is reported(by Craig Boddington who participated)to have run timed trials, optical sights (incl aperatures)vs open sights. EVERYONE is said to have been faster with optical sights. I don't know if Aagaard's results were ever published though.

Aagard stated in his book it was faster and more accurate.
