10 February 2014, 07:01
A.Dahlgrenno not really, do you have a shotgun from them? Can see you in bunch of photos on their site
10 February 2014, 07:07
larryshoresNo. I know one of the owners . He asked me for a bunch of pictures. I guess he put them there .

cal pappasLarry:
They are made in Spain by (I think) three gents. Their work is by hand, of the best quality, and very expensive. I would guess they are among the best of the bespoke makers in the world today. I will put a pic or two of their work in my upcoming book.

MJinesAlthough the most beautiful doubles at the show award has to go to Peter Hofer Jagdwaffen. That .17 HMR double (under 1 KG) was simply outstanding. I do not know how functional they are, but in terms of works of art, they take the cake.

JDA-COBoy, those are purty...
10 February 2014, 18:05
BiebsThat sure looks like a Larry Shores-type of rifle :-)
10 February 2014, 18:20
GrenadierThey make very nice guns and rifles. Their bolt rifle and O/U caught my eye some time ago. But if I was going to that expense for a double gun or rifle based on the H&H 'Royal' sidelock I'd prefer to buy the original instead of the copy.
This is nice!
.
10 February 2014, 19:41
larryshoresThey cost no where near what and H&H costs.
10 February 2014, 21:18
BiebsLooks like a Hartmann & Weiss!!!

Steve AhrenbergHi Larry,
I own one. La Armeria de Madrid. The quality, wood to metal fit are second to none. Artisans, not craftsmen. The guys you spoke with build the rifles themselves.
Form, function and beauty. Mine has been to Zambia several times, Australia, even shot a Javelina with it here in Arizona.
I can recommend them with confidence.

Larry, the takedown rifle above with the two interchangeable barrels is priced at 60,000 Euros ($82,000). A standard version of the same would be 40,000 Euros ($54,700).

JDA-COMight be twice that if it had an H&H stamp on it. Rest assured, I'll never own one, but those of you who do, I sure do like looking at the pics!
11 February 2014, 17:59
GrenadierJDA, their prices ARE in the H&H range.
LARM do make very nice firearms of superb quality and I am not saying their workmanship or products are lacking in any way. But, my point is that if I wanted to pay the price and purchase a properly made H&H sidelock then I would purchase it from Holland & Holland.
However, I have not seen anything similar to the LARM take-down rifle offered by any firm other than LARM. Their takedown system is ingenious and very well engineered with a fit and finish second to none. It may even be a LARM innovation and it is worthy of strong consideration if in the market for a best quality bolt rifle. Just as I would choose H&H for an H&H sidelock, I would probably choose LARM for a best takedown bolt rifle with interchangeable barrels. It truly is a very, very nice rifle.

I agree with your statements in entirety, except… LARM are not priced at H&H levels.

larryshoresBased upon the prices I was given at the show the upper end LARM rifle was LESS than $90,000. This is a hell of a lot less than and H&H.
11 February 2014, 23:48
GrenadierLarry, you're right that is a lot less. I was basing it on the prices of their bolt rifles. But are you sure that wasn't 90,000 Euros ($123,000)? Either way, it's close enough to it for me that I would either get a newer second-hand H&H or go the whole way and buy a new one. I wonder what the second hand market is for a LARM.

12 February 2014, 00:23
larryshoresI am fairly certain they said dollars.
I do not recall what they said about the bolt guns.

No, we don't all know that. If you don't want a LARM, don't get one. This thread was a question about a specific rifle mfg.

Nice looking double Steve. Did they give you the choice of a Splinter vs. Beaver tail when you bought it?
Cheers
Jim

Steve AhrenbergHi Jim,
Yes, I had the option. They give you the option for everything, right down to the game scenes on the engraving.
I know most guys don't like beavertail fore ends. I do. My Charles Osborne has a splinter, I don't like the feel of a splinter in my hands.
A beavertail has the feel of a woman's graceful curves in my hands.

I got my rifle before these guys got the name and recognition they enjoy now. It is a fine piece. If I come to Anchorage this spring for a shoot, I'll bring it along.
Regards,
Steve

. Larry, I have it in writing. The bolt rifle set-up in the picture above is 60,000 euros, 50,000 euros with only a few gold highlights, and 40,000 euros in "standard" form .

RockdocLovely rifles.
I would like to see how the two-barrel set bolt rifle takes down. Looks like a good idea having the forend slide on rather than rotate on with the barrel. It looks very nice. Unusual the checkering at the front of the action.
Would like very nice in my suitcase!
Cheers, Chris

I'd say that is 100% dependent on the size of the woman! Personally, I prefer a slim fit gal akin to the splinter! They do make nice guns though.

I played with it quickly at the show and did not quite understand how the lock-up really works. The bolt lugs locked into the barrel extensions that were on each barrel. However how it was all held together tight I don't know.

RockdocThanks Mac.
I have an old English 375H&H that is of the screw in type (forend-barrel together)with locking via a bolt through the gas port of the magnum mauser action!
They seemed to have discontinued that style early and went to takedown of barelled action from the stock. Thet old way struck me as not being all that strong nor allow adjustment for any wear take-up.
Sure is a nice looking rifle and handy too.
Cheers, Chris
