There is so little data out there on the 30R Blaser, I thought I would share the results from my first day at the range with my new Chapuis UGEX double rifle. I have just started working up loads, and I have not chronographed anything yet, but the initial results look very promising. Special thanks to CCMDoc and Biebs for passing this exquisite little rifle on to me!

Todd - the photos of the rifle are on the "French Seduction" thread I posted a few months ago. CCMDoc posted the photos there - the rifle originally belonged to him.

Subsailor,

Glad that you are satisfied with it and looks like you have a few winner loads there.

Best of luck and good hunting with it.

Nice to see something appearing on this cartridge.
I have a Krieghoff on order in 30R. I did manage to get a copy of the DEVA Weiderladen and the RWS manusl with the data for it. It looks like an interesting cartridge to try out. Brass and a couple of boxes of RWS 180 gr loads are coming also. It'll likely be Sept/Oct before I see it.

I shot the loads above at 100 yards yesterday, and the results were not quite a good. The load with 62.0 gr RL22 shot best with about a 2 1/2" spread center to center - but the barrels crossed, so I have to reduce the loads and try again! I think something between 61 and 62 gr is going to work.

Sub, for a double rifle for use in North America, or Europe, and Leopard and plains game in Africa, that round is the nuts! It is basically a rimmed 30-06 and that rifle shoots! The Target you posted doesn’t show crossing with the 62 grs RL-22 and is just about perfect with the left on the left, and the right on the right of center. If that holds at 100 yds it will be a leopard tapper and an Elk getter!

Mac - that is EXACTLY the plan! I was really pumped up about my results at 50 yards, but like I said earlier, the 62 and 63 gr loads crossed barrels at 100 yds. I will be out to the range agaion tomorrow (too many crazies out on Sunday afternoon!)seeing if I can tune the load in. This could turn out to be one of my favorite rifles if I can get a 100 yd load to shoot.

Your very close! Shouldn't take much work to get it in the Xring a 100 yds!

I've been looking at that round for some time now! In it's origenal form, and to shorten it, neck it down, and blow it out in a 243 win die to make a rimmed 243 win, as well! I have made them from 9.3X74R brass but I think the 30R Blaser brass is stronger. I've always wanted a 243 Win flanged double rifle for muledeer hunting!

Admiral, a group down around 2" at 100 yards is something some bolt rifles can't manage. Don't get greedy :-)

EXACTLY

Are you using a scope, if so which one?

My Chapuis UGEX 30R Blaser came in this week as well and it has an interesting twist. Dale Nygaard convinced the factory to switch the triggers around so the left is in front since I am left handed. Like it so much might sell my 9.3x74R and have another one built with the lefty triggers. 4 months from order to delivery.
Color cased finish, beautiful wood, ejectors, regulated with 180 grain bullets and it weighs 7 pounds 9 ounces. Have a huge supply of 180 Nosler PT's so will give them a go with some IMR 4831 and RL 22.
Next up will be some shooting time with Hornady Interlocks 220's to see how they do. At the moderate velocities expected these "non premium" bullets should do very well.
Might end up trying a scope on it as well at some point.

Look forward to reading about your progress with this caliber and I'll post my results as well.

I must admit the "greedy" thought crossed my mind. If the barrels had not crossed in my range testing on Saturday, I would have probably declared victory, come home, and loaded 100 rounds. I was using a Leupold VX-3 scope in 1.75-6x which came with the rifle and was used in the regulation process. I will post my range results later today when I get back from the range. I think I am close!

For load testing, why not use a more powerful scope? At out age, a 1.75x6 is a bit low for really dialing in an aim point.

Dave,
Are you taking that one with you to Save for PG? 2" is certainly plenty and very nice at 100 yards. Don't pay any attention to Biebs, he's used to shooting Blasers. That must be where he came up with that. dancing

To answer Biebs' question first, the rifle was regulated with the Leupold 1.75-6 scope mounted. My limited experience with scoped double rifles has shown me that changing out the scope can really throw off the regulation. So, I stuck with the original - which is the same scope I will use for hunting.

For Pagosa, I will not be taking this one with me to the Save in August. I will be taking my Searcy 450/400, which also has the capability to mount a scope. I hope to shoot everything this year with my Searcy double.

Now for the news from the range today. Sometimes "greed" pays off. I was very happy with the performance of the little Chapuis today, and I have a hunting load. It will be using a 180 Gr Barnes TSX over 61.6 Gr RL-22 and a Federal 210M primer. Brass is RWS. No need to look any further. Take a look at the targets below for the proof!

ADM,
Just curious, did you try any loads with RL15? I had my Baikal 30-06 reamed out to 30R Blaser just before I came back from the UK. It should be here in Texas (as well as the rest of my guns!)soon. I have not shot it since being rechambered but have dies, brass and a shed load of Barnes 180 TSX bullets for it. I think it will make a great hog gun. I ask about the RL15 as that is what I use for 375 and 416. If I can get away with not buying another powder, that would be a bonus! Any load data greatly appreciated.

I have not loaded any RL15 for my 30R Blaser - sorry. Recently, New England Custom Guns started importing RWS ammo in 30R Blaser. this is the ammo used to regulate my rifle. I bought some, and it shoots "width of the barrels" at 100 yards. I have not done any more load experimentation since.
