Most of Ya'll know my feelings on scoped double rifles. I think ANY double 400 and under should have a scope fitted in QD mounts.
This was re-enforced on my just returned Safari in Zim.
So...
I have just returned from Champlin Arms where I left JJ Perodeau my British 450/400 3 1/4" Double rifle. He is going to fit a 1.1-4x24 Schmidt & Bender with the illuminated Flash Dot reticle in claw mounts.
This addition will make my 400 a truely all round hunting rifle.

N E 450 No2, You are so right about having the added versatility of a scope on a double. My little O/U .30-06 wears a Leupold 1.5 X 5 with a heavy crosshair a combination I truly love. There is a bit of difference in how the rifle shoots, but that keeps things interesting. Enjoy the final product when completed.

I, too, like the idea of a scope in QD mounts on the "smaller" doubles. Until recently I had a pair of Chapuis - a .470 and a 9.3x74R. The 9.3 wore a leopold 1.5-5x in QD mounts and proved to be a very versatile outfit.

Both of my Chapuis have now been sold and a Merkel .500 now lives in place of the .470 and I have a Merkel 9.3x74R on order. The new 9.3 will wear a scope, too - but this time it will be a Trijicon 1.25-4x Accupoint. This scope with its' long eye relief, clear optics and illuminated reticle will, I think, be a brilliant double rifle scope for both fast shooting at moving targets and precise shooting at stationary targets. I can't wait for it to get here so I can start and "play" with it!

I am curious as to why you got rid of your Chapuis combo.
