Aftermath of an encounter with an african lioness

I see the conversation piece of a lifetime. Hard to decide whether to mount it on the wall, or refinish it as is and leave it on the gun.

Now that is a trophy!

I think I would replace the damaged forend with a new one for starters. Next, I would mount to "chewed" forend to a plaque and hang it in my trophy room. Mounting it with a photo of the lioness or with the lioness mount iteself would be even better.

I guess you should have ordered a bigger caliber :-)

There has got to be a story to go along with that picture!!!! Surely you won't leave us hanging.
Also, hopefully, there will be a mount to put that next to or incorporated into the display of that forearm.............

It's great to have plenty of luck. This reminds me of a lion encounter that Ronnie McFarlane had about 15 to 20 years ago in Botswana. A fine old William Evans 500NE got stuck in a lions mouth rather than Ronnie.

You could say the benefit of all that wood in a beaver tail is that it offers the ability to alter it if damaged but in this case it could be nice to leave as is.

DoubleDon
I would leave it exactly as is with the lion teeth marks. I would then order a complete forearm replacement.

I think that is a splinter forend! HEH I'd leave it as is and hunt with it. Everybody would ask how that happened and I'm sure you have a good story. At least I hope you didn't leave it leaning against a tree and the lion used it as a chew toy. Let's here the story.

And how. Can't wait to read about it!

I too would replace the for end and frame or mount the original one!

I would leave all the "dings" in the stock and use it as is. Then every time you take the gun out you can say, "There I was........"

Got to be a damn interesting report... Address the eight empties in your shell holder please.

Glad you're in reasonably good condition and appear to still have a sence of humor..!

Wow! What an adventure! I cannot wait to read the full report!

Glad you are ok. Take care and heal up soon.

BTW, I'd leave the fore end as it is and mount it with the trophy like suggested. I'd get a new fore end replacement.

If that were my rifle there wouldn't be enough gold in Fort Knox to make me change it. That right there is what you call serious character. I do hope that you are alright.

I forgot to post these!!! these were recovered from the cat, 300 gr. Barnes, all entered the chest area all recovered at the butt ( hind legs) just under the skin!! As near as we can tell at least one passed through the heart.

Awesome bullet performance. Apparently the kitty didn't behave as it was supposed to!

Is that rifle a .375H&H?

I finally got around to posting the story. Go to Hunt Reports to see it.. and to answer your question it is a 450/400 - loaded with 300 gr. TSX (designed for the 405 Winchester) at 2250 fps.

Jeebsus, hopefully you heal fast.

I'm torn as to if I'd want to refinish the fore-arm and continue to hunt with it, or order a replacement and keep it just as it was.

Glad you survived.
