The .400 Purdey has a base diameter of .469", a neck diameter of .425", and a bore diameter of .405". The .45/70 has a base diameter of .5039", a neck diameter of .480", and a bore diameter of .458". A complete rebore and rechamber cleans up all the way.

Think about it, not only did they enlarge the chamber out to take the much bigger 45/70 case, they also opened up the bore to take a .458 bullet, which would clean up the end of the original chamber.

MacD37Gentlemen, I looked that rifle over today at Champlin's booth at the DSC show! Tony,Rusty, and I looked it over and I would love to own that little rifle. The only thing holding me back is the price!, for a North American woods hunting double, that thing would be sweet! Alas, too high for me!

Im sure if they were a good hunter they would kill a lot of game. If that were my only choice I would hunt anything in the world and never look back.
