The first time I shot with a Sabatti I was impressed with the accuracy (a 10 and a 9 at 100 yards). I shot ammo reloaded by a friend.

I was so excited that I bought ten boxes of Norma ammo with 286 grains. I thought that it was as easy as shooting with bolt rifles.

Yesterday, between two friends and I, was very difficult to make decent groups with the rifle.. Confused

The first shot ALWAYS went up and right and second one left and down. Only after several shots (12)both holes where horizontal, but the barrels were VERY hot.

I will try again the ammo that I used the first time and see what happens but with the Norma ammo I must use it only to hunt big pigs.. Big Grin

Please keep away all the Sabatti bashing we all have already read, if I have money for a Holland I would have gone that way from the beggining..

What tips or loads for 9,3x74 you can share with me ? What does it means the up and right shots and the down and left shots at 50 yards ?

What bullets do you reccomend me ? Accubonds, Partitions, Woodleighs, Speers, Swifts, etc ?

I can see a few factors in your post.

Fistly, get a chrony and find out the velocities of Both lots of ammo - your friends and the factory.

Take your time when shooting - make sure you are calm.

Barrels get very hot even after 2 - 3 shots as they are quite thin on most DR's.

Thank you very much.

This is the first double I bought (and I hope not the last one).

In my country is nearly impossible to import guns bigger than 6,5 caliber, so it was this rifle or nothing, so I grab it.

I was impressed how quickly the barrels heat compared with a bolt rifle !!

I am going to do my homework as I really want to enjoy the rifle. Next week I am going to work with reloads at different distances, take pictures, measure the velocity, etc and post everything here.

Thanks again

Go back through a couple of the previous threads, including those on the Sabatti and look for those where some of us have explained to new DR owners about shooting DR's, technique, sight picture, where to have the gun held, etc etc. It shouldn't be that hard to sort the wheat from the chaff and Sab bashing !!! LOL

MacD37 I think posted some good info re shooting a DR so you might start by going to his profile and reading / looking at all his previous posts.

I am sure others will post here later with some good info.

Mariscal !!! first of all congrats for you excellent hunt in La Pampa. Really super stags.

Secondly ,the only thing that I can tell you is that I had tested 4 Sabatti in 9.3 x 74 and all of them shot as anyone that prides be a DR shooter and really know what a DR can do .

Few reloads at different velocities impact at the same point that factory loads.

I had posted few days ago , because I'd install a scope and after this my DR became to shot spreading appart.MACD37 gave me an explanation that was very interesting.
I 'd tested without scope and easily I can get 1 inch groups at 50 meters shooting with both barrels one shot each.

You have a descent double for that price . Obviously a Holland, Chapuis , Rigby etc fall in other category .

regards
