Has anyone here heard of a Rogue River double rifle? I have got a line on one and just curious.

Thanks,

Paso Robles used to be the name of the company. Now it is John Rigby and Co.

I've only held their rifles as Dallas Safari Club Conventions. What caliber is the rifle?

Jason, To my knowledge, Rogue River as they are now, provide Chapuis doubles. Seems to me that in the past they got them from the factory in whatever state of finish and then did mods/more mods to them.

Edit.

No, I'm thinking of Evolution Rifles/Evo Rifles. That Rogue River you'd have there would be a Merkel, yes.

Rogue River is the name that Geoff Miller originally built double rifles under in Paso Robles. Miller later bought John Rigby & Co., and moved it to California. I don't think many of the Rogue River rifles were built. They're not particularly desirable, so don't pay too much.

Showbart, the origenal Rougue River doubles were not MERKELS, nor are the current John Rigbys, They both used a Trade action made by Merkel, but the rest of the rifle is made in Paso Robles, Cal, and is highly over priced with J.Rigny's name on it, and not too well made when they were Rougue River rifles, IMO! The best thing about the two of them is the fact that they are made on Merkel A&D actions!

I'd rather have a Merkel built rifle than either of them! coffee

I agree with Mac. By the way,
Merkel should offer a 10 pound
or lighter 450/400.

That is a true statement if I've ever heard one! One more addtion I'd like to see from Merkel is a cut off switch like the Heym for the new ejector rifles. A new 10 lb 450/400NE 3" with seletive ejector switch, and cuts in the quarter rib for swivel scope mounts, like the Chapuis! Dump the new space age irons sights, and go to the wide "V", and bead! thumb

A 450/400 should weigh a little less than 10lbs. Which btw I've come to view as such a terrific cartridge. I view the 500/416 in the same light and while others don't, due to ammo/component situation, this doesn't worry me. Has anyone been able to get slightly more speed, within regultaion, out of their 450/400?
