Tomorrow I have the pleasure of visiting the Heym factory in Germany to discuss one of their fine double rifles in .500NE. I'm interested in the level of customisation they can provide and whether they can produce an 11 pound 88B Safari Sidelock. I believe the "stock" weight is 10 pounds which as others here have said is a little light. The Jumbo at 12 is a bit heavy so 11 pounds it is if I'm buying a Heym.

A H&H Royal is still a possibility but I'm having trouble justifying the huge cost. I expect there will be a difference in quality between it and the Heym. I just don't know how big, which is why I'm going tomorrow.

I'll post a mini-report when I get back.

I was a bit ahead of myself with the factory visit date. I will be there tomorrow. I have been informed they will be giving me a full tour and the opportunity to fire some doubles. I really can't wait.

mboga, would you mind sharing your overall specification including the degree of customisation chosen? How has the order process been so far?

I just left the factory 2-weeks ago, and you will be pleasantly surprised... particularly at the weight. Wink

Consider it sold!

Don't forget that chopper lump barrels are available too if you're wanting more "best gun" features.

Have a great time there, i think you'll be pleased.

Chris, does Heym make a sidelock DR other than the Jumbo? How is it priced?
