This double is in their current catalog.30-06 or 45-70. What does anyone know about them? I have a Baikal OU 12 gauge that my youngens shoot trap with.Solid gun so far.

Lilguy, assuming this is the same one Remington briefly imported, it is a functional double rifle capable of decent accuracy. Triggers are often stiff and uneven, but can be smoothed up. I had the .45-70 briefly, and found it to be so light in weight as to be unpleasant shooting any but the mildest loads. But as a reliable budget double, I think the Baikals remain worth considering.

I received my MP221 in 45/70 two weeks ago and it is a blast. Straight out of the box it shot 3" groups at 50 yards using over the counter Remington 405 grain ammo. The triggers have a lot to be desired and the wood is typical Russian military grade, but I like this gun

phone calls as of today.

If you get a Baikal double rifle, and I would not discourage you from doing so, be sure to read my post titled "Baikal Double Warning/Fix". This discusses the firing pin/bushing set-up. I have had a couple of these guns in the shop that had doubling problems and both were caused by the firing pin/bushing set-up. One was going off when the gun was being closed, so checking/correcting this situation is very important.

Thanks all, I ordered one and will touch base when results in. With a bit of tweaking all the White tails I hunt wont know what hit em. I'll just read about and dream of Africa here at AR.

Can the Baikal shoot the higher pressure .45-70 loads like the Marlin and Ruger #1? My local gunshop has had one in stock for a while and I've been debating whether to buy it or not.

They're limited to 28000 cup/psi

So you shoot trapdoor loads? Gun has 2200 bar on barrel.31900 psi. How do you find the pressures
for a particular factory loading. Winchester Super

Back when they were sold by Remington under the Spartan brand, the specs said 28000. The factory loads are, unless specified, held to SAAMI specs. The SAAMI spec for the 45-70 is 28000.

I've had mine since the Remingtons first hit the market around 3 yrs ago or so. Had both the 06 and 45/70. Both regulated fine, and had a blast doing it. Scoped both. My particular 45/70 seems to like 405's or 400's. Doesn't seem to like the 300's at all. I have heard of the opposite as well. I love carrying mine chasing deer in the close thick stuff , but when I am ridge running I still grab my old 99.

Give us your thoughts on the Russian gun.

It's a clean looking utilitarian design,very happy with fit and finish. I will shoot it next high power day at club late in April. If It hits kill zone on WT's out to 100 yards it's a hell of a deal at $760.00.

I have only put 80 rounds through my gun. I've tried most of the over the counter ammo even some of the hot stuff, but Natasha (I named her) likes heavy lead and slow speed.
