Will, There is a guy in B'ham by the name of LD that sales doubles/Dakotas/etc. I can't think of the name of his company but I will try and find it. He should be able to measure you. In my personal experience, three different stock fitters will net you three different sets of dimensions... I recommed you let the company building the gun for you take the measurements. | |||

Chris is right. Most guys that send me diminsions from a shotgun guy isn't right 99% of the time. Let the gun maker take the measurements. | |||

I sent Butch the measurements he requested and the rifle fit perfectly!!! I was impressed to say the least. Shotguns use a little different measurements than rifles. 465H&H | |||

This is something I've often wondered about. It seems to me that the purpose of fitting a rifle or shotgun to a particular shooter is the same: you want the firearm to come to the shoulder naturally and automatically come to a natural aiming point aimed at the target. The type of projectile coming out of the firearm doesn't seem to me to matter in this process as long as it's going to the right place. Since a double rifle is often used as a dangerous game rifle, it makes sense to me that it handle as well and point as naturally as a shotgun you would use in a tight quail or grouse thicket. What am I missing here? Please enlighten me. Rifles and shotguns use different measurements primarily because the shotgun is normally patterned so the center of the pattern is well above the line of the sights. You want the pattern to place about 60 to 70% of the pellets above where the sights are aligned. With a rifle you want them the same. Again, normally you want a little higher comb height on a shotgun. 465H&H | |||

When Butch Searcy made my .450 NE double, he had me fill out a form that he has used for a long time. I admit to having been nervous about it, but when the rifle arrived, the fit was great. The gunmaker knows how he is going to fashion everything, so I would go with the maker's recommendations. I don't know if Butch's fitting form would work for another maker, but it sure works well for his techniques. Use a double rifle. It just feels better. Double Rifle Shooters Society | |||
