For anyone who is interested, there is a new left handed Searcy 500 NE for sale on guns international for $9500. The add doesn't give much of the particulars like LOP and weight but there is a number to call the seller. Here is the link:

http://www.gunsinternational.c...cfm?gun_id=100245215

That sounds like a pretty good deal if one is looking for a 500 I think.

If the link doesn't work, just put SEARCY in the Search box in the top left. There's another RH in 470 as well for $9,500.

Thanks Paul. l will take you up on your offer. Finding load data for the 500 is pretty thin down here. And l'm sure l will need some help in getting a regulation load sorted with available components here. And a reduced load to start with to get use to the rifle would be good Cool

No problems Jack, though I hope you have deep pockets, .500 components are pretty expensive to get Down-Under.
You've caught me at a bad time as I only have a few days left at home before I leave for my buffalo camp in Arnhemland. I'll be isolated and out of contact up there until some time in early Oct.
My V.C .500 hasn't made it to Aus in time for this season so I havn't actually begun loading for it yet, just started putting components aside for it for when it does arrive, my dies/shellholder came in yesterday.

I have a copy of Greame Writes latest book here at home which lists some loads for our Aussie powders if you e-mail me at; ssahuntinfo@optusnet.com.au I'll send you the loads he lists in the book and that at least should get you started.
There are a number of loads using 2209 and if you can get it up your way also Reloader 19.
I'll also put you in touch with my local gun-shop keeper who also has a V.C .500 on order and who will be importing various .500 components.

Cheers
Paul.

If you get stuck for load data, PM me or even call Geoff McDonald at Woodleigh, we both have 500's and a few friends have a heap as well so plenty of 500 shooters in Vic and Qld.

Thanks for the help guys

Paul, l have just got a copy of Greame Writes book too. So will be reading it soon.
l was also going to contact Geoff for projectiles too. Will be picking up some Hornady brass soon, and have some 2209 and R19 at home.

Cheers

500 Nitro's are one of the easiest to load for,
most just stick with 2209 and get on with it,
a few grains either way and most doubles regulate.

The only changes really happen when you change batches of powder.

If you go hunting, try the Woodleigh Hydro's, they are devastating on game.

Don't forget the 440gn .510 bullet from Woodleigh for a lighter shooting bullet (and less recoil) plus it's a great pig killer !!!).

JackH,
Make sure and leave appropriate feedback on the Gunsinternational site for the seller so others aren't taken in as well. Not sure but they may censure him if he doesn't follow through with the sale at the agreed upon price!
