Good Day Ladies and Gents: This coming weekend I am finally going to work up a load for my Merkel 141 E in 9.3x74R. The question is, because the Merkel has the adjustment screws for regulation, do I treat this as a conventional double or do I: check for group with the right barrel and then adjust the left barrel? check for group with both barrels and then bring the left barrel over? any other options? All groups are shot with four rounds; right, left, right, left and the gun is then left to cool before the next string. Once a group has been found that is reasonable, more rounds will be expended to determine the precise powder weight the is best for the group. My suggestion is to find a load that does pretty well as to regulation, then move (very small corrections) the left to match the right. A couple of questions: Do you have the regulation directions? What was the gun regulated with at the factory? JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Carpediem, When I sell the 141's, it doesn't leave the distribution center in Trussville until 1) the buyer has decided what factory ammo he wants to use in the gun. 2) Ammo has been supplied to Herbert at Merkel in Trussville, and 3) Herbert has personally regulated the gun using the customers ammo. Step 4) If the customer wants a scope added, the scope is sent to Herbert and he then zeroes the scope to match the regulation of the iron sights. This process guarantees a rifle that shoots very well with both iron sights and scope. If this process is not followed, I see unhappy customers who get frustrated in trying to find a working load for their guns that works for both barrels, and can then be made to zero with a scope. If you feel you can make the necessary adjustments utilizing the instructions supplied, then go for it. It you can't get it to shoot well, then send it back to Herbert for regulating. Hope this helps. I have the regulation instructions as to how to turn the screws. The gun was regulated using 232 grain vulcan ammo by Norma As my DR was purchased in Canada I will not be sending it to the USA for regulation. I AM NOT regulating with factory ammo. I will be using a 270 grain speer Hot Cor bullet. This gun will be used to hunt black bear, moose and deer. Congrats on your rifle. The 141 is a very fine tool. You will undoubtedly get the gun regulated as you want; just be patient and willing to do some shooting. I personally enjoy that part of double rifles. Just make sure you regulate the iron sights first, then zero your scope based upon the accuracy of the iron sights. Carp You need to shoot the ammo with which the gun was regulated!! It's not complicated. That should solve your problem. Deo Vindice, Don Sons of Confederate Veterans Black Horse Camp #780

mdstewart: I did all that.......(disclaimer: not with you) and my results were different. When my workload slows down I will be seeing what I can do to regulate it. I think regulating my rifle will be a good experience. Carpediem4570, please keep us informed on your progress.
