I would call JJ Perodeau at Champlins.

You might want to use Warthog Ivory, as I do not think it yellows as fast as elephant ivory.

Have you tried applying a little white out to your excisting front site?

If your parents didn't have any children chances are you won't either.

Hi Mike,

JJ is putting a warthog ivory SIGHT on my rifle as
part of the to-do list that I sent to him when I
sent the rifle to him in December. It should be
back in my hands by mid NOVEMBER and I can't
wait.

Don't know what the front sight on your Famars looks like.

On the flip-ups I just glue them in the upright position so they don't move.

Surely you can get a gunsmith to fake it with one of the NECG white beads. Or get one of the threaded shotgun beads and screw it in behind the front sight.

What's a matter old man, can't see that tiny brass bead anymore? Smiler

Mike,

Are you talking about adding a flip up ivory sight or an ivory face on your regular sight?

If it's the regular sight I'd recommend a platinum face with a 45 degree cut. The platinum face really picks ups light.

In any case speak with JJ.

Send it to New England Custom Gun, they will find one that works and install it for you.

Just get some white nail polish. Touch up when needed. Only a buck or two, and you do not have to be without your DR.

To Will,

I think we all type "web site" so often
that when we think of "rifle sight" we
slip into the S I T E spelling. I fixed it
in my post above.

Something like this if you can have one fit on the famars would be perfect. The best of both worlds.

If you want a new front sight for your double contact Nick Tooth PH # 417-581-4570, he does first rate work! I thinkas good or a bit better than JJ. Just my 2 cents.

NECG carries the Recknagel sight either banded or screw in.

Thinking about an upgrade for my some of bolt rifles.

Mike,
You don't need to send the gun out to get that done..You can order a front sight from NECG or Brownells..Be sure and measure your present sight from bottom to top..If you are ordering a larger bead then you may want to compensate for that by going to the next smaller in height as you will take more bead in your sight picture with a larger bead as the bigger bead will lift the barrel and make you shoot a tad higher.
