This 1892-1893 vintage J. Rigby 450/400 3 1/4" BPE just recently left the shop after a rib relay and regulation. It weighs 8lbs 13oz with 28" barrels, and is a non-rebounding Jones underlever model.

Wow indeed! The quality of this gun equals or surpasses many best guns I’ve had in the shop including Boss, Purdey, H&H, WR, and Woodward.

Great little rifle! Aaron what was the load you regulated this rifle for black or smokeless?

I have a Westley Richards 500-450 that was also sold out of the W/R store in 1892.
If it will handle smokeless loads of 450-400 3" I would like to have a pair of new barrels mono-blocked in the old butts. This rifle is scroll engraved, and is hammerless boxes-lock, and has selective ejectors.
Making cases for it's cartridges, as it is today, is a pain.

If you would rather answer on this thread please send me a private message from my profile!

…………………………...The rifle you have pictured here is a real treat.

Mac, I’d certainly have to take a look at it. Are you in the DFW area? If so you’re less than 2hrs from me, if you’d like let’s schedule a day for you to visit me at my place in Mineola TX.

Likewise I could give you an estimate prior to coming to determine if it’s a route you’d like to take.

Thanks Dutch44! I'll put that down in my load book! I have several old black powder doubles, and I'm always interested in loads for any black powder cartridge gun or rifle!

Mac, I've heard that 55 grains of 5744 will produce same fps and results with the 265 grain lead pill. Haven't tried it yet cause Aaron regulated this rifle to the 44 grains of IMR 4198 and backer rod.

Can't shoot for another 7-8 months cause of shoulder surgery. Bummer

Aaron or Dutch,

What was the velocity of the load?

I had a Rigby identical to this one and utilized the same load but did not Chronograph it, unfortunately. I'm thinking in the 1600-1700 fps. Aaron can jump in here. The other Rigby shot that load (the first one I assembled) into 3/4 at 50 yards and 1.3 inch at 100. Most accurate double I have ever owned. Sold it like a fool and was redeemed when I locked on to this one at an off-beat auction.

The lack of caliber and pictures of markings was what made me hesitant. They sold a bunch of drillings cheap on Day 1 before I stumbled across them.
