There can be no other explanation for me to do this again...

At auction this weekend (not my gun or auctioneer) is a hammer double with scope in 8X57 that may just be an August Heym, the scope mount covers part of the name.

They have 4 days of sales, with some of everything from revolving shotguns to Maxims, including this Franz Sodia in 9.3X72R

That 500NE is a nice rifle, and could be a real buy there!

With that many lots over 4 days bidder's fatigue could lead to some good buys, but their starting prices are high enough to avoid "steals". Sure is an eclectic variety of stuff, including one lot with two High Standard Model 10s, and several thumb trigger Winchesters. I wouldn't be surprised to find that 8X57R is a Heym.

The Nick Mackinson DRs I've seen were built on Browning BSS shotgun frames.

If you read the info on the August(Heym?) Suhl double, it describes wood repairs, a loose action, and dark bores. Not my idea of a "steal" :-)

It IS a single trigger.

That doesn't look like a BSS action to me! However there is nothing wrong with a Browning BSS action for a double rifle. Many 470NE doubles have been built on BSS actions that are still shooting well after three or four thousand rounds pushed down the tubes!

Mac, that might be so, but it sure affects resale value. Look at an early Searcy BSS double rifle, and see what it sells for compared to his own-actioned rifles (BL serial numbers).

Absolutely true! However for a guy wanting the get into the double rifle game the older Searcy's are a good place to do just that without breaking the bank. A much better choice than a Sabatti. They sell low when you want to move up, but they sold low when you bought it yourself so it balances out!

As far as a working double rifle, they are value for money spent.

The .500 NE brought $9,000.

That probably won't buy the case when this goes in late November.

Julia has a sale coming up, but there's nothing much interesting in it, unless you care for a Manton in .360 No.2, an Alexander Henry in .450/400, a Makinson in .500 N.E., a Cal Pappas Special, a Webley and Scott in .470 or some Holland and Holland trash in .500/465.

There are a couple other doubles in there.

Forget about Hermann göring's "work"
in his spare time
He was acutally big sportsmann, and animal lover,
He raised Lions, had them to the point when they Where almost adult, and then gave them to the zoo,
When his hometown was beeing heavly bomb in the end, he tried have all the animals from the zoo moved to safety in his place. And he had alot of Guns, krieghoff drillings, merkel shotguns and O/U double rifles. Dont know if he had and side by side double.

But his guns go for a lot!!! Very much history. And it is allways a uknown buyer in the States that ends up with them.

Pretty hard to forget Goering's "work", no matter how much he loved hunting and animals.

IIRC Hermann Göring was the driving force behind the Luftwaffe drillings.
