Hi,

During my visit to the IWA Show in Nuernberg, I took the time and visited Sabatti´s boot and had an interesting chat with Mr. Emanuele Sabatti, one of the companys owners.

Concerning the muzzle grinding, his comment was that it is something of the past. I examinated the rifles at the boot, and non double rifle had any signs of grinding or oval muzzels.

Why Sabatti had taken that short cut in the production, Mr. Sabatti explained that a US customer had made a huge order and couldn´t wait to get the rifles over to the US, and thus Sabatti had to take this (Dremel) short cut in order to be able to ship the contracted amount of rifles in time.

But now, that is something of the past and will never happen again due to the bad publicity.

Thought this could be of interest for you on the other side of the pond.

Cheers.

I hope that's a lesson learned .
I wonder what company it was ? That sounds like something that Walmart might be involved with .They have the reputation of ordering with limited time and if the order isn't ready on time they cancel it ! That makes the gun maker rush to fill the order and a noticeble drop in quality which may ultimately destroy the maker.Names like Schrade come to mind.
Time will tell.

Dear Husky:

Thank you for the update from Mr. Sabatti.

I think if I were entering a new market, I'd make sure my product was tip top before I shipped.

Moreover, its a whole lot easier to take a bit more time, and develop a solid reputation in the first instance than to repair a reputation.

There are some seminal facts still missing.

Nevertheless, if they have solved the regulation issue, at $5,000.00, it looks like you could get a nice double rifle that is certainly usable, based upon the ones I handled at Cabelas in Hamburg.

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis

Hi,
They are Italians that (almost) doesn't speak any english at all. We spoked a mix of English and German.
Perhaps you should try to email them in Italian or have somebody to translate into Italian.

It was interesting however to talk to Mr. Sabatti. The Dremel regulation of double rifles is something that is not excluded to Sabatti. It is uesd by more companies and according to him it works most of the time.

I heard he bought a pair of Nike shoes when he was in the U.S. and he kept walking in a circle. So Nike ground the heal of his shoe so he could walk straight.

Nope. They did not grind the sole, they had them hand-made by Lobb, in the finest Cordovan leather, by a team of master craftsmen with a minimum of thirty years experience each.

And he paid $59.99 for the pair, with a bespoke carry case.

I'm sure the company was Cabela's, they are the only company that I'm aware of that made a very large order of Sabatti double rifles!

I don't think you have to worry about Wal-Mart in regard to double rifles! I don't think you will ever see a double rifle of any kind in Walley world!

At the rate Wally World is going - in this neck of the woods anyways - we'll be lucky to see ANY rifle in their stores!

I don't know, I never thought I would see AR-15's or "tactical" shotguns at Walmart but they now stock a few of each at all times. There may still be hope!

Cabela's was NOT the first firm originally expecting to import the Sabatti DRs. The original importer had planned on selling them at a higher price - around $7k as I recall - but before they could actually import anything they were replaced by Cabela's exclusively. I don't know why or how this occurred but am guessing money and/or quantity and perhaps marketing were involved in the change.

Cabela's is not the importer, BTW, and my experience with the importer when the problems started was not pleasant. Cabela's was responsive from the beginning. I don't know but it could well be that the importer was the real problem with the Sabatti DRs from the beginning.

Whatever the case, both Cabela's and Sabatti have been responsive to correcting problems while the importer has not.
