Let's see all the Wilkes double rifles out there! I believe the Wilkes doubles are as well made as a Holland, Purdey, or Westley Richards. (My opinion only so please don't turn this into the all too common forum bitchfest lol). I hope others will show their coveted Wilkes doubles here and later we can open other posts for the various makers. I am getting a photo ready for a second .600 and should post it shortly (or Brett will!)

475 No. 2 NE. From the 1930s this is a 10 1/2 pound ejector rifle with 26-inch barrels. She went on Safari with Ray Meyer and Patrick Hemingway in 1952 and took all of the big five. When I can learn how to post photos I'll show the rhino and elephant that this Wilkes dropped. Fully engraved to the highest best quality standards.

600 NE. My baby here is from 1914 and weighs 15 1/2 pounds with 26-inch barrels. A best quality extractor rifle, she shoots lead and Woodleigh bullets very well at the regulated 1900 fps and also lead bullets at slower velocities--all to the point of aim. Brett Barringer is saving his pennies for this rifle when I am ready to upgrade. He has offered me his SKS collection and I may take him up on it! (lol). This rifle belonged to Bill Pridham, an elephant hunter in Uganda in the years after WWII. It is nice to have a history with any vintage double.

This Wilkes below is also a .600, and like my rifle above, is regulated for the 110-grain charge. The workmanship and engraving on both rifles is about the same but there is one major exception-this rifle weighs 11 pounds and 15 ounces! Quite a kicker, for sure. She is an extractor rifle with 24-inch barrels. For the light weight, she was built on a .500 frame.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Gents:
I hope for some additional Wilkes doubles. My .475 no2 is the .483. I had Brett Barrigner post the photos as I can't seem to do it correctly. I will add some info to the post just now.
Cheers,
Cal

Scott:
The .475 is up for sale so it will have to be the .600. I hope that's OK.
