FWIW, I've never used the North Fork bullets before but figured I'd try the Flat Point (FP) solids in the K at the range today. I admit that I was trying to goose the velocity up a bit for the 500 gr. solids, and I did with RL-15. A bit too much maybe. But the bottom line is the NF's make round holes from the K so I assume they are stable, at 25 yards anyway. At 2250 fps they should penetrate at least 6 elephants, if not more from all the hype the flat nose solids have received. A right and a left into a 2" dia. circle off-hand at 25 yards, as good or better than I can shoot. I'm just glad I don't have to screw around with "regulation." ------------------------------- Will / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Will, In my 450 No2 I have brain shot elephants with the 480 Woodleigh Solids and with the 450 North Fork FN's. The NF's have given more penetration. JPK has gotten the same results in his Very Nice 458 Win double as well. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

A tough call. The Heym is a nicer looking rifle but I bought the Krieghoff because it had a single trigger*. I had Krieghoff widen the opening angle so it's a bit easier to reload. *Helpful for guys that can't walk and chew gum at the same time. ------------------------------- Will / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Does it weigh less with only one trigger? On a more serious note, Buzz said he has seen several guys who were used to a single trigger shotgun try to use a 2 trigger DR on DG. Some of them get confused in the heat of the moment and keep pulling on the same trigger and wonder why their 2nd barrel does not fire. Getting over that is just a matter of training, but if a guy has shot 100,000 rounds at clay pigeons with a single trigger shotgun, it may make it hard for him to convert to a 2 trigger double rifle.

That is the only legitimate reason for useing a single trigger on a DG double rifle I can think of! 500 grains, Will wanted only 1 trigger to streamline his double. If you read his book and look at the formulas he sets forth therein, it can be surmised that two triggers offer more wind resistance than one trigger. The lighter weight also reduces the gravitational pull. Hence, he gets another 100 fps out of his bullets. NASCAR crews are disciples of the "Stewart Postulate" SCI Life Member DSC Life Member

Will, as you know, Pondoro Taylor himself preferred a single trigger on a double rifle, so you are in good company. As for looks, I like the looks of your rifle. In some ways, especially the action profile, it's less Teutonic-looking than the Heym. I would do some work on it, though, if I were you. I would send it off to a good gunsmith and have him eliminate that schnabel from the fore end and trim it down to true splinter proportions, open up the grip angle a bit and add a steel grip cap and turn that cheek piece into a shadow lined oval. Then you'd have a Krieghoff & Holland and could tell all these dumbkopf critics to bugger off. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Will... I too am a fan of the single-trigger but the folks at Krieghoff told me they would not put one on anything larger than the 9.3x74R. How did you manage to get one? DB Bill aka Bill George

I bought it used, though it doesn't look like it has been around the block too many times. Apparently old enough that it was when Krieghoff was still willing to install a single trigger. They also told me that they don't/won't install single triggers anymore. Not sure why. ------------------------------- Will / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne.
