I have my Searcy 470NE working great now with 500gr Woodleighs and Butch's regulation load of 106GR IMR4831. I am wanting to load a deer/pig bullet of 400gr. I have 400gr Hornady XTP's and 400gr Hawks. Will the 75% rule work with the 400gr bullets? What are other 470NE owners using? I have been reloading for near 30 years now, so I do work my way up. PM me if you are not comfortable posting your loads. Thanks for the help, ND Stephen Grant 500BPE Joseph Harkom 450BPE

I have never shot any Hawks yet but have shot the Hornady's,it should be the same load that you use for the 500's,you will get a little more velocity than with the 500's,just to be cautious though start at say 100 grs & work your way up.I prefer to use Rx 15 myself,I am shooting a load of 82 grs in my Heym. Thanks Bill73, That's kinda where I thought I'd start, but wanted to here if anyopne else was using the 400s. I use the hornady XTP's on deer, in my 411JDJ contender pistol. I've seen them do back flips at 75yds, when hit with a 210gr. I just have to believe that 400gr XTPs at 2300fps will make them fly. Great bullet on soft skin game...delivers all the energy into the animal. Thanks,ND Stephen Grant 500BPE Joseph Harkom 450BPE

Nitrodave It should work. You might have to go up or dwon a grain or so, but in most doubles the exact same loads with the full weight bullet works for one @75% as heavy. In my 450 No2 I have loads with the full weight bullets with IMR 3031, IMR 4831 and RL 15. With the same powder charges Hornaday 350gr RN hit the same as the full weight bullets. I normally use IMR 3031 with the 350gr bullets just because I have a lot of it. I know of several 470's that have shot great with the 350 Hawk, and a couple that have used the 400 Hornaday XTP. You could start with 70gr of IMR 3031, and work up with the 400XTP,s. However you MUST use filler with IMR 3031 or RL 15. The XTP should make a great deer and pig thumper. For some real light loads you could try some lead bullets @400gr such as Cast Performance for the 475 Linebaugh. Start with 40gr of IMR 4198. You MUST use around TWELVE grains of Polyester filler. This is a Nitro for Black load, velocity @1700 to 1850fps depending on hyou final charge. In my 450 No2 400gr cast bullets hit with the sights and regulate great at 50 yards. Similar loads work great with 300gr bullets in my 450/400. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

450#2, Thanks . Great information! This gives me some options. I have some 3031 in the powder safe and some deer hide pillows, that my wife has bitched about, since she had them made. I will load some 3031 and some 4831 tonight, and try them tomorrow. I will post results. Thanks for all your help, ND Stephen Grant 500BPE Joseph Harkom 450BPE

Just be sure the Dacron is fairly heavily compressed. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

450#2, I loaded the 400gr XTPs with the IMR3031 at 70, 72, and 74 grains. I used 8gr of dacron and seated the XTP to the crimp line. It was packed tight and full. This will be my virgin run with filler... I also loaded IMR4831 at 98,100, and 102 grains. I may need to speed these up...we'll see... Stephen Grant 500BPE Joseph Harkom 450BPE
