I’m looking for a source for a front sight cover for my Chapuis Ugex 9.3x74. The front sight is, interestingly enough, adjustable for elevation. When sighted in for 50 meters It sits up high enough that I’m a little concerned it might get bent or knocked off while hunting. Trader Keith used to carry one, now discontinued, and anyway I think it was for a single barrel rifle. Maybe I just have to get one made?

I did not see your post until now. New England Custom Guns sells the Recknagel sight hoods. They are specific to the Recknagel ramps, but can be pretty easily modified to fit other ramps. Here's a link. NECG Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Interesting, thanks. I actually have a very creative neighbor making a removable leather cover. The cover isn’t intended to be in place while being carried - I can be careful enough for that. But in being handled by TSA, SAPS, and trackers, that’s what concerns me.

Sounds like you have it under control. Good luck! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Consider carrying another factory front-sight in the grip or your pocket, I did that but never needed it. Brownell's sells such a steel grip cap. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Great point, Mr. Atkinson! Both of my double rifles are made by Chapuis. For my 470, I already have a grip cap with a spare sight inside. For the 9.3x74 that concerns me, I talked with Mr. Chapuis at the SCI show. They’re very kindly sending me a front sight assembly. That will fit nicely in my gear bag!! Will likely never need it, but better to have….
