a while back i aquired a d.r. made by j.p.sauer a back action hammer gun nicely eng. and in exc shape. 1894 vintage.cal.??? after taking a cham. cast it appeared to be a.43 mauser [11.15x60r]every thing matched except the bullet dia.instead of .446 it was .430 it also wasnt a .43 spanish with the help of acc. reloading members and especially a man named raimey ellenburg [a true gentleman] i managed to fire form .348 win. brass use 375 gr.lead r.n. bullets with 32 gr. of 4198 and the gun shoots -2 in. @50 yds.i hunted with it this season and harvested a doe @70 yds. my whole point being even when you think you have a situation in hand liston to experience there is no dought in my mind that the out come of this venture would not have been as pleasant and sucessful as it turned out without the shared knowledge of you members. thank you for sharing my regards r. emery

Sounds like a neat rifle with that something extra that history gives it. My grandfather was born in 1894, so a guy probably older than my great-grandfather would have been the one taking it home excitedly. Probably nervous too that his wife would find out :-) Let's see some pics. Use a double rifle. It just feels better. Double Rifle Shooters Society

I have a 43 Mauser DR with a bore of .432 ... the early 43 Mausers seem to be around .43 and the later ones .446. There are actually a couple of "standard" dwgs floating around for this caliber, similar situation to the 8x57.
