Here's one for you. Maybe someday my double rifle dream will come true someday and I'll posses a .450 or .500 black powder express back action hammer double rifle. Assuming you'd have to regulated it anyway, do you think it's possible to use sabot jackets that "they" use in black poweder muzzle loaders? Hornady, Barnes and Cabelas supply them. Seems it might give you a bit more velocity and, given equal bullet weights, more sectional density. Just dreaming. Any thoughts?

mt Al: Can't imagine why you would need to have it regulated (assuming you mean re-regulated). Many of us own and shoot BP doubles with either black powder, duplex loads, or 'nitro-for-black' loads. A load can almost always be found which will 'regulate' in any given double express rifle. Such arms in .450 to .577 calibre are very effective game-takers with either cast bullets or modern soft jacketed projectiles, and if you acquire one you will quickly realise how unwarranted your thoughts on sabots really are. Acquiring a BP double is an admirable goal, they are very practical shooters compared with the big-bore full nitro shoulder-crunchers. Get a copy of Graeme Wright's book "Shooting the British Double Rifle" and continue to dream, albeit along more practical and achievable lines! Marrakai When the bull drops, the bullsh!t stops!
