My vision for a double, includes hammers and an under lever.

My problem is cast. I want to share the rifle while I am alive with my son. I am right eye and hand dominate, and he is of course left and left. After I croak, he could get the stock bent or replaced, but it would be nice to share the double. We would each also have 375 bolts that fit us individually.

So, a SXS without any cast? Or give up and just buy and over under. I assume the O/U has very little if any cast. Help and opinions are requested.

What caliber? You might be able to get away with sharing up to the 9,3x74R level. But above that and stock fitment becomes even more important due to recoil and cheek placement. Plus the triggers will be different for each shooter as well.
Maybe just order a Chapuis UGEX 9,3 or 30R Blaser for each of youSmiler

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

You can find/order a stock with neutral cast, but what about LOP, drop, etc? Have you both been measured and see how far off the other dimensions are?

Arniet, I think your vision is for a unicorn.

Better to have a vision for two double rifles.

Once you get up into rifles that need to be used quickly and have some noticeable recoil, stock fit and balance become critical.

I can't see a compromise as you seek being practical.

Best wishes, Chris

I have two Heym 88B rifles that were purpose built as straight stock , no cheek piece , neutral trigger guns.
A 450 NE and a 375 Flanged magnum ,both work as intended , left for me and right for the boys.

I have shot a lot of straight stocked doubles and some with very little cast off..Ive let other folks shoot them and they never knew the difference. Before we get OCD on this sort of thing, best to shoot them and see how they work for you and your son. I shot several buffalo with a left handed 450-400 some years ago as it was that or nada, I got by just fine.

The most amazing thing in the world of gundome is how well the human body can adjust to a rifle or shotgun if just given a chance...
