If I had to trust a S/S shotgun action to serve as a platform to build a double rifle upon, the 1st that would come to my mind is the BSS. But then, you must find one... If my memory is correct, production was halted in the 80's and I haven't met one for years. I have to say that I'm very interested in this. An affordable well regulated 450/400 would be brilliant. And a .303 British on a small frame would be excellent for deer and black bear here in eastern Canada It's not the caliber of the rifle that matters - It's the caliber of the man behind it.

What makes the BSS so special? The boxlock version had bushed strikers but no third fastener and only a single trigger. The BSS sidelock had two triggers but no third fastener and the strikers were not bushed. Both versions had nice wood and finish, especially the sidelock, but what more than that makes them desirable as the basis for a rifle? .

Those BSS actions were sent out and softened then shaped and changed a bit then hardened to different specs. The best I saw were built by Rick Stickley back in the early 90s..I suspect Butch did the same with the superposed Brownings?? The BSS is the only action Rick would use as I recall at the time..I stocked a few of his doubles.
