Fellow AR member, Dutch44 asked me to post some pics of his new baby 10lbs. 6oz. 450/400. I saw this rifle in Dallas in January. This was a very clean and pristine double. Enjoy!!!

WOW! I know it's crass to ask, but what would something like that cost?

That rifle looks familiar and I think I have handled it here out west.
I think it might have once belonged to another forum member from here and NE.

Nice!

I can be pritty criticle but I do know enough to keep my mouth shut when everyone else seems to like something.
I'm also not a huge fan of the 450/400 just my preferance.
But this rifle I really love. This is the kind of rifle that gave the Brits their reputation for quality.

That's a beautiful, rare rifle. It's very unusual to see an extended top tang and unique engraving on a Webley built gun.

Very special indeed, I hope the new owner enjoys it.

Thanks for posting the photos for me. Hope your enjoying your visit and new grand baby.

I waited 6 years for this baby to come back to these shores and patience pays off. I have a sidelock in 450-400 3 1/4 as well and love this cartridge. It is going to Zim in Sept. '12. I'll post photos of the groups this coming week when I get out to the range. Handles like a dream. I owe George for this one.

I think the person posted under "bulldog563" and that gun does indeed look like the gun he bought a number of years ago. It is the fences that caught my attention that it could be his gun.

I AM DEEPLY ENVIOUS!!
Wow, nice piece, and the 450/400 is really an under rated cartridge...many an elephant, buff have fallen to this caliber, and of course Corbett used it on tigers almost exclusively...

Is it a 3" or 31/4"??

Cheers, enjoy!!

Lang made some great stuff - This is a fine example of the maker's work - VERY NICE!!!

Judging from the taper on the barrels it looks like it could be fitted up with an extra set of .470 bbls. (appropriate as Lang invented the .470 back in 1900.

Way cool gun!

I thought about a .450 3 1/4 set as I have the dies brass etc... I think that JJ could accomplish this. If struck properly they could make a great addition. This gun balances the best of all of my double rifles.

That would work too!

I just think it would be cool to have a Lang 470!

I'm personally after a Lang Sidelock Ejector in 470...A tall order for sure, but one will show up sooner or later..(hopefully sooner)..

Try Ken Owen...He can crank out some good shooting stuff, or so I hear.

Dutch-

Again, congrats on grabbing a nice rifle.
I had helped arrange the shipping destination of that rifle a few years ago to it's previous owner out in CA. I'd ended up being present for it's arrival and got to unpackage and handle it before he did!
I agree with you on the handling, as I recall it handled and pointed quite nicely considering the weight.
Although I don't know what you paid for it, I can imagine you wouldn't lose a dime in having an additional set of barrels made for it.
The challenge for me would be having to be without it while it was out for the job!
If you're considering having that done, consider a Brit builder do the job.

Cheers
Tinker

Jeff and a.tinkerer:
You have me thinking about this now. There are certain dynamics to take into consideration. I am set up for the .450 3 1/4 and the .500. However, the .500 is not an option on this frame, I don't believe. I do have a contact in London with a set of .465 chopper-lump tubes that could be considered as well as having a .450 or .470 set. JJ would certainly be the one to do the work. We are expecting 3-4 inches of snow today so a nice day to ponder.

I think if the action is big enough for a 470NE it is a bit big for a 450 3 1/4 & would suit a 500NE , the 470NE be a necked down 500 3 1/4 case , is this not right ?

Currently at 10lbs 6oz, the 500 barrels would be lighter, making the gun too light for a 500ne, in my opinion. That is, if they would fit the frame. I think the 450ne option would be about right on weight, and they would fit.
Congrats on your purchase Dutch... The Langs truely are special guns...and this one has fantastic fences!
