Gents: I have been in contact with a widowed lady whos husband died in a car accident in Texas and she has at least three doubles for sale that some of you might be interested in. She lives in Texas (area Code 325) and if any of you are interested, PM me and I'll give you her name and number. There are three rifles I know for sure, a Searcy two barreled set (unkown calibers but I think one set is a 470), a Heym in 450NE and the best of the three a Wilkes in 375 H&H flanged (I don't know whether it's a box or sidelock). All three are cased of course. Anyhow, I can't think of a better place to put feelers out. She has also been in contact with George Caswell at Champlins and that is what I recommended she do with them, realizing of course there's a 15% fee from them. She's pretty savvy so she knows what she has. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

Would be a shame for anyone to try to exploit this poor lady's situation. To prevent that from happening, I'll go ahead and take the three rifles off her hands for $10k, sight unseen. ![]() Will J. Parks, III

Jorge: About the most complicated thing I can figure out how to operate is a double. Can't seem to figure it out the whole cyber system by myself. Can you send me a PM so I can respond? I live in Houston and a couple of those rifles are interesting.

I believe he was a member here. Believe his name was Josh? The Searcy was a 375 FL and 450NE two barrel set I believe. I think they were also set up with scope mounts. The Heym was a beautiful 470NE that was built for Jim Manion. Not sure about the other double. Sad deal.....the rifles were very nice. ****************************************************************** R. Roscoe he posted as Josh A. His name was Josh Boswell. He was from West Texas. Are there any details? Sad news indeed! Rusty We Band of Brothers! Hi Guys, Ive gotten a bit tired of reading the misinformation about these rifles and their deceased owner, he was a friend of mine. The mans name was Josh Amerine, he posted here as Josh A. His dbl. rifle are: Searcy two barrel set, .375 H&H flanged and 450-400 3", Heym .470ne, John Wilkes two barrel set .360No2ne and .470ne, the .470ne barrels were not original to the gun, they were made and added at a later date by Marcel Thys. I owned the Wilkes and arraigned the sale of the Searcy between Josh and Butch. He killed a nice bull jumbo with the Searcy with .375 barrels on it. Brant

Brant, that's tough when a friend and hunting partner passes on. My condolences, and thanks for clearing up the mystery about the rifles.

My original post was fraught with errors because that was the initial description I was given. The next day I spoke with the widow personally in addition to a PM from Safariman who was the original owner and was more familiar. Anyhow to all those that queried via PM, I gave the right information. I have no interest in the sale of these guns except as a favot to a friend who asked me to help and to the Lady in question. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

I think Josh A. was a part owner in the Shooting Shop in Abilene. I know his family was in the AC/Building business. They were from Merkel. Said deal, did not know him personal--but my older brother had some dealings with him--good people! It was a shame Josh is missed on this side. Ed DRSS Member

I spoke to Mrs Amerine about the Searcy rifle. I also got a note from Butch about that Searcy rifle w/two barrels. Butch said he thought that the two barrel set being so close in caliber (.375 & .411) was not optimal, and thought that Mr Amerine purchased the two barrel set rifle at a nice discount. Mrs Amerine indicated that she would like to get $25,000 for the searcy rifle set. That is 89% of Butch's selling price. You may have seen Butch's recent indication of one of his rifles coming onto the market. The asking price for that pre-owned rifle was 83% of Butch's retail price. That pre-owned rifle was a 450-400 also. Just my 2 cents. It had better be MINT to get that amount. Butch makes a good point about the barrels being so close in caliber. Something of the order of .375 and .450 or .470 or .450/.400 and .500 would be more appealing to me.
