I received my new Searcy Classic 450/.400 today, & was VERY well pleased. When I looked at the Classic prototype last year in Dallas, I liked it, but this rifle is more finely finished (especially the wood) than the show gun at Dallas. With the 26" barrels, it points wonderfully, and the weight is perfect (9 lb. 14oz.). The wood is really great. I believe this rifle will give any fine English rifle a run for it's money. When I looked at the color case-hardened receiver, I called Butch & changed my order on the .577 from stainless to color case-hardening. I won't have a chance to shoot it until I return from my Australian hunt, but I'll report on it's accuracy when I get back & take it to the range. To sum it up, if I was a buffalo, I'd be honored to be shot with such a fine rifle !!!

Alright Frank!

One thing you can count on with Searcy rifles (other than the guarantee), his rifles get better every year.

We need some pictures when you get a chance.

Two water buffalo ..... the Searcy would've made the trip, but it was a little late getting here (in time to apply for the gun permit).

That would be my dream gun with case coloring and no engraving. Just plain clean and functional. Good luck on the hunt. And the word is pictures please! Packy

shocker Oh my. This won't do. Yet another fat, overweight (10 lbs; 1 1/2 lbs too heavy) .400...and a NEW gun to boot! What could Butch have been thinking? Dan, Will, and JPK will need to increase their blood pressure meds. Wink

Congrats Frank, it sounds nice. Yours is within a couple ounces of mine, and I think you'll find the weight ideal. I know for sure that you won't regret the 26" barrels. You need to bring it to Texas for the DRSS gathering to break it in proper. thumb

At SCI-Reno Butch told me that his newest action will permit him to build a 450-400 at or slightly less than 9 1/2 #. DuaneB

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

I may be in the minority, but I think my 450/.400's weight is perfect. Also, I have a Chapuis 9.3X74R that I think would feel a little better if it weighed another half pound or so ..... just my thoughts.

Frank,
I also have one on order, unfortunately Butch is a close personal friend of mine so I suspect that I will get mine last!!!SmilerSmiler Smiler

They sure are nice guns and Butch's guns shoot great, are strong as a vault door and the 450-400s on that smaller action are really something.

Its my all time favorite caliber for anything that walks, crawls or breaths. I have never found it lacking.
