SAFARIKID,

470 caliber? Isn't a little small for your tastes? Or are you planning to use the 470 as a primer in a 1 bore? Big Grin

Ouch Eeker A decision to reload may be a good one. thumb

It has been 5 years but I bought C-H 4D dies for $125, Box of 50 500gr Woodleigh Soft points are $50, Solids are $70. I can't remember for sure but I think the brass stamped Rigby from Midway was $75 for 50. I keep 50 virgin brass for hunting, and have reloaded a 2nd 50 5 times. I use Fed 215 primers and Rel 15 powder.

Something to think about if you are planning on shooting a lot or more than one trip.......

The real truth is, IF you hope to get good with your double [or any big bore rifle for that matter] you will either have to spend a LOT of money or reload.

I would say a person should shoot at least 500 rounds from his big bore rifle in the field, not at the range, hopefully hunting deer, pigs etc. as shooting at game is vastly different than shooting at paper.

I "think" I handle my doubles as good as I handle a 22 rifle, and the only reaso I do as I have shot them several thousand times before taking them to Africa.

I shot rocks, cactus, skunks, armidillos, turtles, squirrels, rabbits, coyotes, bobcats, beaver, turkey, deer, wild pigs, black bear, and caribou with them before getting on the plane to Zim.

You need to shoot your double until it is second nature.

ALL of the animals I have shot with doubles and iron sights, I cannot remember even "looking" at the sights, ie I do not remember a sight picture, I have shot the guns enough that it is "first" nature.

Strange thing is, with my scoped doubles I do remember the sight picture....

Whats up with that???

Bottom line is, shot the double as much as you can.

Learn how to RELOAD.
